John McCain dead at age 81, the day after his family announced they were ceasing medical treatment.
Senator John McCain was a bridge back to the Republican Party of Barry Goldwater, a bridge back to a Republican Party comprised of men of principle who differed from the Democrats insofar as methods went, not about the overall goal of a more prosperous nation and a more prosperous populace. In his later years he pandered to the extremists in his party far too much in an attempt to maintain his relevance, but he still had that core of decency missing from far too many Republicans today.
I can’t say I agreed with McCain about much of anything, but I respected him. That’s something that’s not true of most of today’s Republican clown posse.

My feelings exactly, about the gentleman. He was of an earlier age and I respected him for that. Occasionally he did vote with the ‘nut jobs’ of the party, but I have no idea of the pressures he was under at the time.
He was a Politician which was supposed to mean negotiator at one time.
He seemed to try and do that.

While McCain wasn’t absolute SCUM, it’s the pandering and folding that I remember about him. Like NOT pushing back hard against Bush II in 2000 when the little bastard’s campaign impugned McCain’s adopted child. And would AmeriKKKa have sprouted Twitler if McCain had not sowed the seed of Palin in 2008? He’s no Hubert Humphrey or George McGovern (other failed presidential candidates stained by the Vietnam War.) He’s beta Bob Dole.

If you take a tour of the conservative blogs, most of them are figuratively dancing on his corpse. Which tells me more than I need to know about conservatives.

What that says about modern conservatism is telling. And is a perfect example of why I cannot respect the majority of modern conservatives. They have substituted mean-spiritedness for principle.

Did principle die with RayGun? If not die then at a minimum came down with whatever killed it.

“They have substituted mean-spiritedness for principle.”
That sums it up succinctly. Mean. Spite-filled. Anti-social. The essence of what it means (no pun intended) to be an Amerikan kkkonservative today. And I say that as someone who writes mean-spiritedly myself. But that doesn’t define me. I reckon is DOES with the Reich wingnutz. They don’t stand for anything except for anything that pisses off the people they’re pissed off against. Owning the libturds! They’ll cut off their dicks to spite YOUR arse. The raging against political correctness is just a way to say “I wanna be as nasty as I want to be.”
Eventually, people who think that way crack up. Many die, from self-inflicted gunshots, overdoses, bad drinkin’ or stupid living. My questions “How many of ’em,” “how fast” and “how many people around them do they kill before they neck their own damn selves?” I reckon I’ll live long enough to see the answers.

I have not looked at any of the Reichwing blog slobbermentary about McCain. But I did catch a whiff of the haterz McCainspiracy theories by reading a Balloon Juice post that was taking the piss at the dancers on corpses. So “Q” sez that McCain didn’t die of cancer — he killed himself so he would not have to face a military tribunal! (For what crime, it’s not specified. Being a spy for the North Vietnamese commos after he got out of POW camp, deliberately throwing the election to the Kenyan Muslim in 2008 or selling out to ISIS in Syria are three popular theories.) Twitler was going to send McCain to Guantanamo when he arrests the thousands of paedophiles who are part of the vast Pizzagate Child Sex Slavery Ring! And I suppose the chipmunk-cheeked figure who’s going to go before the world in the Capitol rotunda will be a “crisis actor.” Scratch that — a wax dummy from Madame Tussaud’s…
I often ponder “How delusional can peoples’ understanding of reality be before they become non-functional in society?” TBH, I wonder about that because I get paid to talk to crazy people in psychiatric wards. But shee-it, there are tens of millions of mad morons in Amerika that I could ask the same question about. When they freak out from their unreality, will they do it one by one, or in some mass spasm of mega-Jonestown slaughterarity?

Nah, they’ll just flip their beliefs on a dime according to whatever Big Brother is currently telling them. We have always been at war with East Asia. The chocolate ration has always been 5 grams per week. Etc.

It is amusing to see McCain called a moderate Republican, he was nothing of the sort. He was, however, a principled Republican who understood that sometime governing is about compromise and meeting halfway. He genuinely hated where the politics have gone in the U.S., and that’s a pretty good endorsement.
