Hitmeter 2

I don’t pay too much attention to traffic here at the old website. In fact, the hit counter for the main website rolled over and played dead a while ago and I haven’t bothered to resurrect it. I do this because I like making computers do things. And if I can in so doing annoy some persons in public, that’s even better.

I know that there are a few persons who come here regularly. I appreciate every one of them.

There are also occasional persons who stumble on me.

But what amazes me is that this post generates more traffic than anything else here through searches.

Guys.

Calm down.

It’s a picture.

And she’s dressed.

More dressed than most of the celebutarts I see in the local rag everyday.

What’s all the fuss about?

Bushonomics: The Legacy 0

Unemployment at the highest total in seven years.

Local mall drowning in debt (not that I care all that much–I use the other local mall).

Leyland trucked.

QVC not so qute any more.

And ya know what?

On January 21, 2009, it’s not going to magically change into Obamanomics.

We’re gonna be celebrating Bushonomics for years.

Rain 0

Lots of rain.

Hoping it knocks all the rest of the leaves off the trees so I can get out my mulching mower and chop them up.

I try to wait until all the leaves are down because I’m too lazy to do it twice.

The Ugly Underbelly of the Odious “Southern Strategy” 0

Steve catalogs the atrocities.

The Republican Party is culpable for welcoming–nay, inviting–these persons and their attitudes into its ranks.

It sowed the wind. Let it reap the whirlwind.

Auxiliary Bishop Roger Morin of New Orleans, chairman of the US bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) committee, announced yesterday that the campaign would no longer fund the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). ‘There will be no funding relationships with ACORN groups in the future,’ he said. The action was prompted by reports of embezzlement; CCHD funds, said Bishop Morin, ‘were not involved with those that had been embezzled.’

This would, of course, have nothing to do with ACORN’s registering voters who tended to vote Democratic and whose votes could therefore be considered inimical to the Catholic Church’s anti-abortion, anti-birth control policies.

I did a little research. The embezzlement happened eight years ago and a donor made up the losses.

It is not uncommon for organizations to try to deal with such things privately, especially when family is involved and the organization’s finances can be made whole.

Not saying it’s right, but it’s not uncommon, and, I think, something that one can understand, even though one may not approve.

Frankly, I would not want to hang my brother out to dry, at least, not since I grew up (when I was nine years old, I might have thought differently).

(Damn, the way Karen’s been feeding me links, I’m going to have to put her on the payroll. ‘Cept I don’t got one. This blog is a relentless money-loser.)

H/T Karen for this link:

Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Wednesday she would be honored to help out President-elect Barack Obama in his new administration, even if he did hang around with an “unrepentant domestic terrorist.”

Mr. Obama would do well to heed the advice that comes about 3:10 into this clip:

From Paula Pounstone dot com:

PAULA ON NPR THIS MORNING

Paula’s has (sic) an excellent commentary on NPR today.
It would be nice to get some web action for her…

Best way to do that is send this link (see below) to everyone you know…and ask them to sign up to comment and if they like the piece to press ‘recommend’.

Here it is — send away.
She’s leading the NPR opinion page today:

Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,

I heard the commentary. It was pretty good. Not excellent, but pretty good.

Android Reloaded 0

Oops:

Some users of T-Mobile’s G1 phone found that typing any word on the phone’s keyboard — in any application — sent whatever they typed to the phone’s command line shell.

Those commands were then executed with root user privileges, meaning there were no limitations on what the commands could do to the phone. For instance, texting the word ‘reboot’ would actually cause the phone to do so.

“We fixed the bug on Oct. 31 and are currently rolling out the fix to G1 devices,” a Google spokesperson told Wired.com. Not all G1 phones may have been fixed though as T-Mobile is rolling out the patch in stages and there could be some phones still to be updated.
