Condo Capers 0

We live in a condo. It’s quite a nicely run condo, with a Board that goes out of its way not to be obnoxious, while taking good care of the communal property.

One of the rules is that residents should not mess with the common areas, for example, by putting signs on the grounds, including, natch, political signs (which, politically inclined as I am, is fine by me).

One of my neighbors has found what is, I must say, a most clever way to circumvent the rules.

He has hung a “Trump 2024” sign from the ceiling of his garage just inside the garage door, so he can open the door and inflict the sign on the rest of us while not technically violating the rules.

A Tune for the Times 0

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

Donald Trump’s recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery was, like most of what Donald does, shameless, tasteless, and possibly illegal. No one would have been much surprised if he’d brought Kid Rock along to play a song or two while Trump danced on some heroes graves, or perhaps Trump might have lain on the lid of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while yelling, “Look at me. I’m a hero too”. (You can be sure if Trump had done this, Jesse Watters of Fox Network would have talked about how it was far, far more offensive to the memory of our soldiers when Kamala wore a pantsuit to the cemetery.)

“Dis” Coarse Discourse 0

At Psychology Today Blogs, Ravi Chandra reviews what he calls “the 13 ‘disses’ of abusive power.”

Disturbance, Distress, Dissatisfaction (including discontent, disgruntlement, and disenchantment), Disconnection (including dissociation and discombobulation), Disruption, Disappointment, Disagreement, Disobedience, Dysfunction, Distortion, Disdain (including disrespect, disregard, devaluation, and contempt), Disability, and the Disproportionate.

Methinks you might want to read more of dat about “dis.”

Two men at a bar. Man One: I had it all, then, poof! my telemarketing business was gone. Man Two: Oh, my. Man One: Now I'll be on disability for the rest of my life. Man TwoP Gee, that's rough. So what put you disability? A car wreck? Man One: No. Worse. Much worse. I grew a conscience. Man Two, looking towards barkeep: Check, please.

It’s the Stupid, Economy 0

Farron discusses Donald Trump’s alma mater’s report that Trump’s economic policies fantasies (I wanted to say “ignorance,” but I refrained) would devastate the economy.

Afterthought:

Despite what NBC would have you believe, “business man” and “con artist” are not synonyms.

And, yes, I think NBC is significantly responsible for convincing lots of persons that Trump was something other than a colossal failure at business.

Republican Family Values 0

Nickolas Kristoff details the deception. A snippet:

In attacking Democrats and Kamala Harris, Republicans have been making a legitimate point: One of our major political parties has worked to undermine America’s families.

The problem? While neither party has done enough to support families and children, the one that is failing most egregiously is — not surprisingly — the one led by the thrice-married tycoon who tangled with a porn star, boasted about grabbing women by the genitals and was found by a jury to have committed sexual assault.

John Moffatt, in the voice of Hercule Poirot:

The wages of sin are said to be death, but sometimes the wages of sin seem to be luxury.

Isaac Asimov:

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

Snakes on a Campaign 0

Charles M. Blow make the case that Donald Trump has a way with the reptilian amongst us. Here’s how his article opens:

Former President Donald Trump has surrounded himself with ideological shape-shifters — former Democrats and former anti-Trumpers willing to profess a fawning loyalty to him.

One wouldn’t be wrong to think that this results in a treacherous environment. But Trump prefers this sort of snake pit because he understands snakes.
