“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Politeness is essential to building relationships.

A Moneta woman shot and killed her boyfriend Friday when he returned early and unannounced from a business trip and she mistook him for an intruder in their home, she told Franklin County sheriff’s deputies.

“He Calls Himself . . .” 0

Many years ago, an old black man said about my then State Senator, “He calls himself a lawyer . . . .”

It was an onion statement.

It had many layers, but underneath them all was a truth. The person in question was neither a good lawyer, nor a good State Senator.*

The statement can be equally true for someone who calls himself a pastor.

Sadly, in the universe of those who “call themselves” something or other they are not, there are many more who call themselves “pastors” than who call themselves “lawyers.”

Wrap yourself in God and get away with anything.

At least in this world.

I cannot understand why persons carry gadgets that cost several hundred bucks in their hip pockets like they were handkerchiefs, yet I see it every day. I would worry that the over-priced doohickey would break; I would not, however, expect this:

Thanks to the quick action of students and staff, an eighth-grader at the Middle School of the Kennebunks has been treated and released from a hospital after her iPhone caught fire in her pocket Friday.

(snip)

EMS Division Chief Andrew Palmeri said it appears that when the student sat down, with the phone in her back pocket, the phone’s battery “shorted out.” The state fire marshal is investigating, he said.

According to the story, students and teachers responded promptly and competently and the girl was not seriously injured.

The Regent, still at the public trough:

A pair of newly released invoices for a combined $10,358 in attorneys’ fees related to former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s gift scandal brings the taxpayer tab for that legal service from two main firms the state had retained to about $795,000 since last spring.

There’s an old joke that goes,

    Q. How do you go bankrupt?

    A. A little bit at a time, then all at once.

I think that’s how The Regent got into his mess: a little bit at a time and then all at once.

Of course.

Attorneys for Curtis Reeves Jr., the retired Tampa police captain accused of murdering another man in a Wesley Chapel movie theater last month, say their client should have been charged with manslaughter at most and is entitled to be freed on bail.

Tampa attorney Richard Escobar also maintained that Reeves was acting in self-defense in the Jan. 13 shooting.

Because picking a fight and then killing the person you picked it with is just how you roll in the gunshine state.

All snark aside, you must realize that these folks are sociopaths.
