Men Are Pigs 0

The Seattle Times rounds up some #metoo moments. Here’s one:

Ali Cho, in contrast, has no doubt that an Uber driver entered into #MeToo territory when he kept pressing her for a date during a drive to the airport. Cho, a University of Washington senior who heads a leadership program, was headed home on spring break.

“I love Asian girls,” the driver said. She told him she had a boyfriend. He suggested it might not last.

All the while, she thought in the back of her head, “He knows where I live.”

Timeline of a Toady 0

Dick Polman tracks Little Marco’s fealty to the merchants of mechanized death. Here’s how he starts:

We hold this truth to be self-evident: Political impotence in the wake of gun violence is a pre-existing condition.

We all know what happens after a mass shooting — thoughts ‘n’ prayers, TV footage of traumatized kids, it’s “too soon” to do anything — so this time let’s try something else. Let’s tell the tale through the prism of one hapless politician. Let’s make him a metaphor for our surrender to routine slaughter.

Check out the politeness.

A 24-year-old man was checking out of the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 151 East Wacker when a gun fell and accidentally discharged around 10 a.m., police said.

“An individual who spent the night int he hotel was checking out, at which time a firearm fell out of his pocket onto the floor, striking the tile,” said Commander Michael Piggott, Chicago Police Department.

Police say fragments, possibly from the tile, struck three people. They were taken to local hospitals and are expected to be fine.

Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’ 0

Quite the carnival on Carnival . . . .

The trouble started after the Carnival Legend, which can carry more than 2,000 people, set sail from Melbourne to New Caledonia last week – though there are disputes of exactly when and why it all began. . . .

Others, however, said a single family of about two dozen people seemed intent on provoking conflicts – spitting in the pool, screaming in the smoking area and fighting with passengers and staff over any provocation.

“They were looking for trouble from the minute they got on the ship,” Kellie Peterson told 3AW. “Anyone and everything. They even picked on a 16-year-old boy because they thought he looked at them.”

Ending the Shelling 0

Will Bunch writes of the “NRA’s reign of terror.” A snippet:

First, we need to acknowledge the NRA for what it really is: a hate group that uses its immoral tolerance for gun violence for profit and power.

Yet another one of those responsible gun owners we keep hearing about . . . .

Deputies say the owner had no idea who would’ve shot her pony. She told them she had no problems with anyone and didn’t think she had upset anyone recently.

The sheriff thinks a stray bullet or accident may have lead to the pony’s death. There have been no known similar incidents in recent weeks and deputies believe this to be an isolated case.
