Politeness takes practice.

Almond’s wife told deputies that she heard several gunshots just before her husband was found inside their garage. Evidence of the shooting was discovered by investigators.

Deputies soon found two people from an adjacent property who had been target shooting just before Almond was found dead. Three guns, as well as ammunition, were seized from the two.

When I was growing up, I would set up cans on a log and practice shooting them. Knowing that even a .22 calibre bullet from a rifle can carry up to a mile (and, at close range, can penetrate through seven 3/4-inch thick pine boards before lodging in the eighth), I would not do that during hunting season, as there might have been hunters in the woods, the woods you can see behind the house in the picture on the banner at the top of the page.

And these clowns–maybe not the ones mentioned in the story, but certainly some clowns in the neighborhood–were shooting in the direction of a residence.

The Environmental Protection Pollution Agency 0

Robert Redford has penned a scathing indictment of Scott Pruitt’s malfeasance. A nugget:

These seemingly daily revelations (of self-dealing and corruption–ed.) dominate the headlines. But Pruitt’s failings in ethics and judgment are only part of a much larger problem: Pruitt has failed at the core responsibility of his job.

He’s not protecting the environment. Pruitt has become a one-man public-health risk to the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. From day one, he has worked to gut the EPA and hamstring its ability to protect the environment and public health. He works on behalf of the fossil-fuel industry and other industrial polluters, not the American people. That’s the greatest scandal – and the reason, first and foremost, he’s got to go.

After all, turkeys also walk on two legs . . . .

Eric Strunk, 43, and David Dayhuff, 48, both of Gosport, were hunting on private property in northwest Monroe County when another hunter walking along the field line reportedly mistook them for a turkey, according to the release. He shot at them with a 12-gauge shotgun, injuring both men.

That’s the sound of the broom sweeping sexist pigs out the door at Nike. A nugget:

While the #MeToo movement has led to the downfall of individual men, the kind of sweeping overhaul that is occurring at Nike is rare in the corporate world, and illustrates how internal pressure from employees is forcing even huge companies to quickly address workplace problems.

As women — and men — continue to come forward with complaints, Nike has begun a comprehensive review of its human-resources operations, making management training mandatory and revising many of its internal reporting procedures.

Nowhere that I ever worked did I witness conduct like that described in the article.

Slip yourself a little politeness on the side . . . .

Lake County Sheriff officers responded to a report of an accidental shooting at 11:19 a.m. Officials said they found that the man had been handling a semiautomatic pistol that his wife recently purchased and shot himself above the knee cap when his finger slipped, said Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

I couldn't pull up his profile. I think he blocked me! Father: That's easy to explain. People don't want to hear your opinion. They want to hear their opinion coming out of you!
