James Bruno attempts a taxonomy of the gulled and the gullible. A snippet:

Politicians who slavishly parrot Russian propaganda fall into three categories: the Cynical (those who know better but peddle the lies anyway); Useful Idiots (those who are easily manipulated); and the Compromised (those who are actual Russian assets who do Moscow’s bidding because they were recruited one way or another).

I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses.

Monkey Business 0

In the Idaho State Journal, Larry Gebhardt explains. A snippet:

The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. The proverb and the image are often used to refer to a lack of moral responsibility on the part of people who refuse to acknowledge impropriety, looking the other way or feigning ignorance. Another name is code of silence.

Our congressional delegation and their staffs have issued statements in various media that indicate they are in the camp of Mizaru, Kikazaru and Iwazaru . . . .

In a tangentially related topic, Steven Lawson explores the enduring fascination with conspiracy theories in U. S. politics.

Misdirection Play, You Can’t Always Get What You Want Dept. 0

Liz Swan examines the somewhat farcical Republican talking point (one can hardly call it an “argument”) that somehow the impeachment of Donald Trump is invalid because Democrats have wanted to impeach him all along. A snippet:

Let’s grant the Republican position that Democrats have had impeaching President Trump on their calendars for months or years (or since the Donald was conceived if you like). Does this position at all negate the fact that President Trump committed impeachable offenses?

Recount Reveries 0

Thursday at our Drinking Liberally gathering, we agreed that Chris Stolle was correct in requesting a recount over a margin of 24 votes.

We also agreed that it would be most delicious if the recount were to increase Nancy Guy’s victory margin.

Welcome to the delicious.

Old style frolics. From El Reg:

Facebook has lost a copy of the personal details of 29,000 of its employees after hard drives containing unencrypted payroll information were stolen from an employee’s car.

The antisocial network said it is in the process of informing those who were exposed, though so far there is no indication of the purloined details being used for fraud, it is claimed.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Politeness is a family affair.

Police said the boy and his 1-year-old sister were in the car with his mother while his father was inside a nearby business. The father had placed his lawfully owned and carried handgun under the seat before getting out of the car, according to Liening.

The boy got out of his car seat and grabbed the gun, which accidentally discharged, striking the mom, Liening said.

Diogenes:

When I look upon seamen, men of science and philosophers, man is the wisest of all beings; when I look upon priests and prophets nothing is as contemptible as man.
