If you are a regular visitor, you have probably noticed that Fluxbox is my preferred GUI interface. It is capable of all the eye candy you could want, without the overhead of a desktop environment.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s John Diaz identifies one Trumpian trait upon which you can depend:

His only consistency is that someone else is always to blame for anything that went wrong.

Puerile Pandemic Protestors, Reprise 0

Tony Norman muses on the folks protesting following sound medical advice. Here’s a bit:

Left unexplained by Mr. Trump or his surrogates making the rounds on the Sunday news programs was why so many protesters felt the need to bring guns to protests about social distancing. Were they planning to shoot errant viruses? Why imply by the show of guns that they were ready to fight to the death if the Democratic governors insisted on trying to save their lives?

Sam dissects what’s behind the protests against the coronavirus shutdowns and against following doctors’ orders. I don’t agree with everything he and his colleagues have to say, but I think his main point as to motives for coronavirus intransigence is worth a listen.

Aside:

One quibble: There are no statewide elections in Virginia this year, as Virginia state-wide elections take place in odd-numbered years. Accordingly, no Virginia State Senate seats are in play.

Off-year state-wide elections were a gift from the Byrd Machine intended to reduce voter turnout. Gutting out the vote is not a new tactic by any means.

This is not a criticism of Sam. I would not expect him to be familiar with the minutae of Virginia election law.

Stupid Goes Viral 0

Tom Moran marvels at the spread of “the stupid virus.” A snippet:

All this evidence of infection by the Stupid Virus, which affects the region between the two ears. It cannot be detected with a nasal swab, and there is no dependable cure, sadly. It can spread with ease even among those practicing strict social distancing: Vulnerable targets can catch it simply by touching a keyboard with access to Google.

We live next door to a golf course. I don’t play golf (though I understand the fascination, because I’ve shot pool–both games are you against the ball). Mostly I most just point and laugh.

TP Hoarder Gets Wiped Out 0

Occasionally, you hear of someone getting just what he deserves.

A man in Australia who purchased around $10,000 worth of toilet paper and hand sanitizer was recently denied a refund by a supermarket owner.

The story goes on to say that Mr. Upstanding Citizen purchased the product to sell on EBay, but his Ebay account got shut down.

Details at the link.

H/T to my brother in Virginia’s Northern Neck.
