The Lies of the Land 0

Peter Baker takes inventory. A snippet:

Born amid made-up crowd size claims and “alternative facts,” the Trump presidency has been a factory of falsehood from the start, churning out distortions, conspiracy theories and brazen lies at an assembly-line pace that has challenged fact-checkers and defied historical analogy.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Politeness is a family value.

A teen girl was shot early Sunday when authorities said she entered her home and was mistaken as an intruder.

(snip)

Sometime shortly after 2 a.m., her parents heard the garage door open and thought someone was breaking into the home. The girl’s stepfather retrieved his gun and went to investigate.

When the two encountered each other, the girl was accidentally shot in the abdomen, said Sgt. Joni Money.

One more time, “accidentally” is not a synonym for “negligently.”

Hoist on the Elmer Gantry 0

Jerry Falwell, Jr., accused the Lincoln Project of being involved in publicizing the scandal which led to his ouster from Liberty University.

The Lincoln Project’s response is delightful.

The Lincoln Project didn’t make Mr. Falwell sit in the corner. The Lincoln Project didn’t make Mr. Falwell unbutton his pants on a super yacht and post a picture on social media. The Lincoln Project didn’t make Mr. Falwell stand with Donald Trump, though that now makes sense; they are kindred spirits. The Lincoln Project has had nothing to do with the public finally learning about the true character of the Falwell family.
