Mission Creeps 0

The writer of a letter to the editor of the Las Vegas Sun, one who has experience with military strategy, makes an important point. I do not necessarily agree with every word and sentence, but his main point is quite relevant to dis coarse discourse. A snippet:

To make valid command decisions, there must be a definite mission presented.

What was our defined mission in Vietnam? Other than getting Obama bin Laden and his group, what was our defined mission for entering and remaining in Afghanistan?

No room at the inn hospital.

And it’s not just one state, folks.

And this would have been made much less likely, perhaps even prevented, if more people got their health information from authoritative sources, rather than from Republican governors and Fox News and “social” media, but, noooooooo, because we are a society of stupid.

Misty Water-Colored Memories 0

I’m watching an episode of Midsomer Murders in which a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk plays a crucial role. (The housing was not floppy, but the disk inside it was.)

Remember 3 1/2 inch floppy disks?

I threw all of mine out about five years ago, including a 16 disk installation set for OS/2 Warp, which I used to run a PCBoard BBS for my employer of the time.

Those were the days . . . .

According to an update from authorities, the man removed the pistol from his waistband and the gun went off, hitting his girlfriend in the chest.

Detectives at the scene overnight said the man had been unloading the gun when it discharged.

Rogue remedies like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine are most popular among people who are skeptical of vaccines and other treatments – precisely because those treatments haven’t gone through the same process of scientific and expert review that they distrust.

Caption One: How Long Was the War in Afghanistan. Image show pictures of a child from birth to death, captioned as follows: Just before the war began, a child was born. The child learned to walk and the war went on. The child went to school and the war went on. The child became a teenager and the war went on. The child went to high school and the war went on. The child became a marine and the war went on. Just before the war ended, the child was killed by a suicide bomber. Caption Two: How long was the war in Afghanistan? A lifetime.

Afterthought:

Over the last decade until the withdrawal began, the Afghan war probably got more coverage on the NCIS television show than it did on major U. S. television news broadcasts.

Steven M. explains. A snippet (emphasis in the original):

For years the culture war has driven Republican turnout in the South, the Mountain West, and (in recent years) the Midwest. . . .

Democrats want to take your guns. Democrats kill babies. Rich people back the party that runs on these messages, and then that party forms a solid bloc of opposition to increased taxation on the rich.
