Trevor Donovan, in the voice of Thomas Buckner:
I miss being a kid and not knowing how screwed up the world really is.
“The Doom and Gloom Scroll” 0
Sam and his guest* find American media’s coverage of the January 6 hearings to be somewhat problematic, especially when compared to that of the European press. They wonder whether this news of what was nothing less than an attempted coup d’etat is getting lost in a “daily doom and gloom scroll.”

Where It’s Always High Noon . . . . 0
At Psychology Today Blogs, Scott Bonn takes issue with the notion mass shooters are “mentally unhinged individuals who simply ‘snap,'” pointing out that “the majority of mass public shooters are individuals who would not be classified as either clinically or legally insane . . . .” He thinks the problem is much larger, embedded in our very culture and mythos. An excerpt:
Methinks he may be onto something. Follow the link for his arguments.

Yes, indeedy-do, one of those responsible gun owners shot himself in the foot.
We are a society of stupid.
Spin City 0
Driftglass marvels at how, ever since Watergate, Republicans keep getting away with it. He thinks he has divined their strategy.

You heard of Trac phones.
You’ve also heard of track(ing) phones.
Well, it’s worse than you imagined.
Putin on the Fritz 0
Afterthought:
Me, I think Putin sees himself more as Peter than as Joe.
I also think he expected the people of Ukraine to welcome him, not to resist him.
He was wrong on both counts.

I doubt her suit has a prayer in the courts, but the discovery phase might be interesting.

Take the Tour 0
Mangy composes a theme song for the Republican Party. From the web page:
The Republican cries of “how dare the Democrats accuse us of aiding in the preparation for an insurrection” seem pretty pathetic once you’ve viewed the security video of Representative Barry Loudermilk leading MAGATs on his fascinating photo excursion of the bowels of The Capitol. Sure, everybody that goes to DC for the first time says, “The one thing I hope to get to see is not the rotunda, not the statues of past statesmen, but more than anything, the basement corridors, stairways and security checkpoints. They are reportedly among the most beautiful in the world!” I’m sure the one creep that took the tour, then posted things like “Nancy Pelosi, we’re comin’ for you!” probably only meant that he was anxious to meet her and have her sign his autograph book. Nice try Barry. Having grown up on a diary farm, Mangy Fetlocks knows BS when he sees it, so he just HAD to write a little song so Loudermilk’s particular line of BS could at least be set to music.
All the News that Fits 0
One Republican is taking Fox News to court for being biased in favor of another Republican.
Fox News? Biased?
Let me clutch my pearls and fall upon my fainting coach.
