F. T. Rea points out that one thing is not like the other thing. Here’s a tiny bit from his article:

When it comes to infrastructure, Democrats think worn out bridges should be repaired or replaced before they fall down. Democrats think low unemployment is a good thing, too, which is another reason to replace the bridge.

Republicans like their labor cheap and hungry. So high un. employment is usually preferable. That was bullshit campaign promises to create new jobs have more traction, too. For Republicans, tax breaks for billionaires are more important than infrastructure maintenance and improvements.

A Notion of Immigrants 0

Cancel culture, Republican style:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Barack Obama:

We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what’s in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense.

Many are claiming that the Supreme Supremacist Court’s recent decision on affirmative action was unprecedented. In contrast, University of New Haven Professor Mike Lawlor sees a precedent for it.

I recently stood in the doorway of the Foster Auditorium on the campus of the University of Alabama. On June 11, 1963, Gov. George Wallace stood in that very spot and blocked access to Vivian Malone and James Hood, two newly admitted students. They were Black.

Last week, six members of the United States Supreme Court took their places in the schoolhouse door.
