Double Standards and the Double Dealer 0

Isaac Bailey disagrees with Donald Trump’s and the Trumpettes’ claims that he is a victim of a double standard. Rather, argues Bailey, Trump has benefited from double standards throughout his life.

A snippet (emphasis added):

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., recently said on Fox News that she sees “a two-tiered system of justice, a double standard, one for Donald Trump, and one for everybody else.”

She’s right. Despite overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing throughout his adult life, only now is Trump being charged or convicted of things such as fraud and being civilly held liable for rape.

“An Assault on Workers” 0

Sam and and labor lawyer Seth Goldstein discuss efforts by plutocrats and billionaires to destroy the NLRB, gut workers’ rights, and return employees to being serfs who labor for their lords.

It’s longish listen, but a worthwhile one.

The Rule of Flaw 0

At the Sacramento Bee, Erwin Chemerinsky wonders why the Trumpette’s don’t seem care–indeed, almost seem to relish–the impending indictments and existing judgements against Donald Trump. I commend his piece to your attention.

Here’s a tiny bit:

The core of the rule of law is that no one, not even the president, is above the law. If voters are willing to ignore Trump’s violations of the law, the message that sends about approving lawlessness is scary. If he wins the presidency, he surely would begin by believing that he need not follow the law and that his constituency will support him even when he blatantly violates it.

For decades, conservatives have identified themselves as the champions of “law and order.” It is ironic and perplexing that they could embrace a candidate who shows so little regard of the law.

Remember, “responsible gun owner” is an oxymoron . . .

An SAPD sergeant told KSAT that a man heard a noise in the backyard and went to retrieve a weapon. While obtaining the weapon, the man told police the weapon accidentally discharged, sending a bullet through a wall and into his mother’s bedroom. The bullet then struck his mother in her chest.

. . . and “accidentally” and “negligently” are not synonyms.

We are a society of stupid.

“Suffer the children” is a Republican family value.

Aside:

See the comments that Thom mentioned regarding the Heritage Foundation at this link.

As one who trained as an historian specializing in U. S. Southern, it seems to me that the “heritage” that the “Heritage” Foundation claims to represent is little more than unreconstructed white Southerners’ myth of the “Lost Cause” dressed up in Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes.

To understand our place in the world, we need to make sense of our past.

Afterthought:

Those who would prevent us from making sense of our past wish to lead us into a senseless future.
