Another case of self-politeness . . .

A man accidentally shot and killed himself when he slipped while taking his trash to an apartment dumpster.

The man in his 50s or 60s was carrying his gun and trash at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a preliminary San Antonio police report. The gun discharged when the man slipped in a wet area.

. . . another casualty of the confluence of guns and stupid.

Thom discusses how Donald Trump is trying to run away from debating Kamala Harris without looking like he’s running away from debating Kamala Harris.

Aside:

Methinks that Trump demands debate broadcasters promise not to fact-check him seems to me sort of maybe a little bit of an indicator that he intends to say things that might be a tab bit less than factual . . . .

Dion Lefler takes a deep dive into the ginned up right-wing controversy over Olympic boxer Imane Khelif. A snippet:

It’s entirely possible that Khelif possesses a genetic advantage over some of the other competitors in the event — sort of like Michael Jordan had those preternaturally large hands of his.

But it’s become increasingly clear that Khelif is not a man.

Instead, she’s the victim of rumormongering by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, who runs an outfit called the International Boxing Association.

Title: It's the very normal super-hero duo: MAGA-Man and his youthful sidekick, Fertility Lad (that is, Donald Trump and J. D. Vance); Trump: I love the flag so much I kiss it every chance I get. Vance: I think childless couples are sociopaths. Trump: But we're no weird. Vance: Don't put it in the paper that we're weird. (Pause) It's no use, MAGA-Man. Our villainous adversaries won't stop calling us weird. Trump: Curse those name-calling cucks and pedos. Is it weird to occasionally mention the late, great Hannibal Lecter? Vance: Holy cinematic reference, MAGA-Man. Of course not! Trump: And what's so weird about innocently questioningg Kamala Harris's ethnicity. Say, are you married to someone of Indian heritage? Vance: Obviously she's not white, but I just love Usha (footnote: actual quote.) Is it creepy to want the government to track women's menstrual cycles to make sure they're not sneaking off to get abortions? Trump: Not by any definition of the word that I understand. We're not weird, Fertility Lad. It is the Democrats who are weird. Vance: And we must enlist our very normal allies such as Roger Stone and Laura Loomer to help us amplify this compelling argument. (Newsflash.) Vance: The MAGA-computer says that someone is trapped on a sinking electric boat with sharks nearby. But wait! The boat owner is a childless cat lady. Trump: A perplexing dilemma. Let's sti on the MAGA-couch and consider our options. Vance: Uh, I'll stand.

Another oxymoronic “responsible gun owner” exposes a child to politeness.

According to police, the child was in the care of a babysitter who allegedly left two handguns unsecured in her home while watching the child. Green, who works as a social worker and is a graduate from the University of Michigan, was given a $75,000 cash surety bond.

“Investigation has revealed that a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was unsafely and unsecurely stored under a pillow, on a bed, inside the residence while the children were present,” said Warren police’s public information officer, John Gajewski, during a press conference on Monday.

The child is currently in stable condition at a hospital and is expected to recover.
