A Tune for the Times 0

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

For all their patriotic bluster, it seems Republicans have an incredibly long list of fears and insecurities. Mangy Fetlocks has no problem with admitting to fears, since many fears make total sense. It’s presenting yourself as heroic and fearless when you are nothing but a bundle of insecurities that Mangy feels compelled to call ‘BS’ on.

The Missed Message 0

Goat: Hey, the debate has a commercial break. Pig: Let's hurry and get snacks. Rat: Yeah, I don't want to miss any of these two morons yelling at each other. (They all leave.) Voide from the television: And now a message from our sponsor, former President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln: At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall we expect some trans-Atlantic giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we must live through all time or die by suicide. (Goat, Rat, and Pig return.) Goat: Did we miss anything? Rat: I don't think so. Pig: Who's the crying bearded guy.

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

I can’t help thinking we have yet to hear the end of the story about Trump taking 15 boxes of documents to Mar-a-Lago when he left the White House. Maybe Trump had Russian and North Korean bidders facing off to buy those boxes as he attempted to sell them on eBay. Donald was never one to pass up a quick and easy buck, no matter how sketchy the deal.

Somehow, one doubts that this is what John McCain would have chosen as an enduring legacy.

I disagreed with many of McCain’s positions and certainly did not support his campaign for the Presidency, but I found him a person of integrity–a characteristic that seemingly can no longer be attributed to persons in his political party.

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

The other day, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison described the present-day Republican party as ” …a party built on fraud, fear and fascism.” Seems pretty accurate. Mangy Fetlocks thought such a catchy, alliterative description should be a campaign slogan for midterm elections, so he wrote a snappy little campaign song with it.

At the Bangor Daily News, Bowdoin professor Aliosha Barranco Lopez explores the dangers of echo chambers, with a focus on QAnon. A snippet (emphasis added):

, , , echo chambers are not simply communities with strict relations of trust and distrust. They are, also, places where our identities are transformed in ways that make it virtually impossible for us to change our minds. People in online echo chambers acquire a number of new beliefs about what type of persons they and others in their group are. A QAnon follower, for example, thinks about herself as part of the group of people who get things right, and those who are not part of that group are people who get things wrong.
