Atrocity, Reprise 3

I have discussed mountaintop removal before. Mountaintop removal kills. It kils streams, towns, forests, and lives.

So this is good news.

The EPA announced on Tuesday that they were putting a hold on dozens of mountantop mining projects until the “projects’ impacts on streams and wetlands can be reviewed.”

I saw that the other day in the WaPo. All I can say is it’s about time.

Oh, btw, are the oil & gas companies running commercials there about more drilling here in the US?

I don’t watch the networks, but I haven’t seen any such commercials.
I do know they want Colorado’s oil shale.  As I recall, they wanted Colorado’s oil shale in the 80s, then pulled out, leading to a bust.
As I have pointed out, they want the reserves, not the oil.

So far the answers we’re hearing are about the lack of the needed technology to get it. Seems like I read somewhere that a lot of the leases have expired, or reverted back to the state too. Needs to stay that way. The western slope is also habitat to wildlife.
