Give Me a Break: Small Minds Dept. 2

Oh, man.

A suburban county that sparked a public outcry when its libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction is now being asked to ban Harry Potter books from its schools.

Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction books are an “evil” attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion.

And the Tarzan stories were designed to get persons to live in the jungle with animals.

Sheesh.

Ms. Mallory has made a strategic error. If she really wants to get Harry Potter books banned, she needs to hang out on the playground when school is dismissed, handing out free copies of Harry Potter books along with study guides that imply Harry Potter promotes Christianity, not Wicca.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. Another one of my subversive ideas, right along with handing out free Switchfoot CDs.

Or, following the same line of reasoning, make it required reading in a religion class (rather than a literature class).
