Collateral Damage 4
Gun nuts’ worship of their leaden Baals puts Little League games in the sights.
The matter is of particular urgency, since supporters of gun rights say they plan to legally carry guns as part of their rally.
One wonders why they don’t indulge in more normal and harmless fetishes, such as foot-worship or cross-dressing.

Oops! Reposted on the intended day.
Yes, I do line the QOTD up in advance, sometimes a couple of days, sometimes as much as a month. Depends on the quote quota cotillion carousel.

Too Much Is Never Enough 0
George Monbiot explores the reasons why the persons who have everything keep wanting more. For example:
As the immensely rich HL Hunt commented several decades ago: “Money is just a way of keeping score.”
The desire for advancement along this scale appears to be insatiable. In March Forbes magazine published an article about Prince Alwaleed, who, like other Saudi princes, doubtless owes his fortune to nothing more than hard work and enterprise. According to one of the prince’s former employees, the Forbes magazine global rich list “is how he wants the world to judge his success or his stature”.
The result is “a quarter-century of intermittent lobbying, cajoling and threatening when it comes to his net worth listing”.

Facebook Frolics 6
Scott Herhold is puzzled by Mark Zuckerberg’s transition into a PAC-man:
Neither of those messages is central to the thinking of Silicon Valley. In fact, they would irritate a lot of Facebook users and managers.
In adopting Machiavellian tactics, Zuckerberg has done more than upset his core constituency. In a real sense, the Facebook CEO has raised questions about what he and his company stand for.
“It’s incredibly cynical,” says Phil Trounstine, my former colleague and the co-founder of the political website Calbuzz. “It makes people believe that it’s all just a game. And it’s not a game. People are struggling for real stakes.’
Hmmmmm.
“Incredibly cynical.”
“Zuckerberg.”
Who could possibly have ever expected to hear those two in the same breath?
Who, indeed?

He is not optimistic. Nor am I.
Some days, as I consider the looting of America, I’m glad I’m old and won’t be around that much longer.

“They Are Killing Us” 0
When I walked into the Student Center at my college, that’s how I announced the murders at Kent State to my friends.
It was true then, and it is true now.
Will Bunch considers Kent State’s lasting import.
It resonates until today.
Aside:
I seldom read the comments to his posts.
He seems to have a marvelous capacity for attracting haters.
If you wish to wallow in hate, have at them.
