“But It Works” 0
Oh, no, it doesn’t.
One more time, “because you can” is not a sufficient reason for doing something.

Predictably, those who wish to persecute persons for being express outrage that Attorney-General Herring has jumped out of the persecution parade by deciding not to defend Virginia’s constitutional amendment against gay marriage.
They are claiming that he must, just must, defend any state law, just (as my mother used to say) because.
Mr. Herring, though, has found precedent for not doing so, deliciously citing one of their own.
Responding to such complaints, Herring said he is upholding his constitutional duty. He also said there is well-established precedent of Virginia attorneys general declining to defend certain state laws. An example he cited is Cuccinelli’s decision last year not to defend a law allowing the state to take over failing schools.
Heh, I say, heh indeed.
Snark aside, this is Virginia, not Massachusetts.
I again commend Mr. Herring for his political courage.

Kudos to Mark Herring 0
In a stunning reversal of the policy of his predecessor, Virginia’s new Attorney-General chooses to stop persecuting persons for being. A nugget (more at the link):
“After thorough legal review, I have now concluded that Virginia’s ban on marriage between same sex couples violates the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution on two grounds: marriage is a fundamental right being denied to some Virginians, and the ban unlawfully discriminates on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender,” Herring said.
Eight years ago, Herring supported Virginia’s constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, but has had the courage to grow and change. I commend him for that.
Elections matter, folks.

And you were worried about NSA surveillance:
If you think this sounds a little terrifying — that a company to which you’ve unwittingly handed over reams of detailed, personal information about yourself is now taking that very information to essentially get inside your head and anticipate what you’re going to do before you’re even aware of it yourself — don’t worry, you’re right! And Amazon knows you think that!
They are stopping short of just shipping you stuff and billing your credit card.
For now.

Delayed dislike.
A Facebook post caused a shooting and police pursuit, which ended in an accident Wednesday night.
The Northwoods police chief says the incident started at a home in the 6600 block of Kenwood in Northwoods. He says three women and a man showed at the home and started shooting, because of a Facebook post from September 2013.

Really, now.
But the Archdiocese’s responses to both court orders have been as different as night and day.
Lynn, 63, was literally taken in by the church, which paid his bail and is allowing him to live at St. William Parish in the Northeast while the District Attorney’s Office appeals to get his conviction reinstated.
Meanwhile, Chad, 16, was kicked out of West Catholic on Jan. 13 and told not to return until the ankle monitor is removed, according to him, his parents, Fred and Tiffani Baker, and his attorney.
Of course, one is a black kid accused of a minor crime and the other is a Prince of the Church accused of covering up child molesters.
Who more deserves Christian mercy is quite clear.
