How Stuff Works: Comment Spam 0

Comment spammers come up with comments that look as if they mean something, until you read them closely. Here’s how they do it.

Posted below the fold is a comment I received in which the spammer posted his entire spam comment without editing it. I put it below the fold because it’s almost 3000 lines long. Read the first few lines and you’ll get the idea.

The comment itself was caught by Akismet and has now been deleted.

Police say the man shot himself while sitting at a traffic light at Effingham and London Blvd. He was attempting to clean his revolver when the gun went off, shooting his hand.

Really, now, you can’t make this stuff up.

The Privilege Flew 0

Cowgirl Up cuts to quick on the story of the white woman who is suing the sperm bank because she didn’t like the color of the child produced by said sperm, giving her a not all white baby (as if there were anyone anywhere who is “all white”).

She’s literally suing for the return of the portion of her white privilege from which she has been temporarily separated . . . .

There’s more at the link, but that pretty much nutshells it.

“The History Wars” 0

Werner Herzog’s Bear, history war correspondent, reports:

I am interested in examining exactly why the History Wars have returned with such vehemence. Most of it has to do with Tea Party conservatism, which was called something else back in the 1970s, but was still the same force opposing textbooks that dispensed with a hagiographic vision of the American past. Radical conservatism relies on a certain narrative of American history more than perhaps any other political movement. They constantly make appeals to the “Founders,” who they have transformed into divine figures who can do no wrong. America to them is a kind of tool for God’s will on earth, an “exceptional” nation bringing the light of freedom to the world.

The evangelical/fundamentalist flavoring of the Tea Party colors its historical vision. America can do no wrong, since it is divinely inspired. To point out any shortcomings, or how the Founders were not perfect and actually even fought with each other, is heresy.
