Another case of self-politeness . . .

A 15-year-old was killed in Deer Lodge after accidentally shooting himself with a gun.

(snip)

He said Littell was at his home with family on Perkins Trail, near the Fentress county line, when he pulled a gun out of a safe. It went off and he was shot once, killing him.

. . . and another gun that fires itself.

Monkey Business 0

Jess Zimmerman:

It’s a very large internet, after all, and it’s long been known as a prodigious generator of adult material for every occasion. You know the theory about how if you put an infinite number of monkeys in front of typewriters, one of them will eventually write Hamlet? Thanks to the internet, we have now tried this experiment with several billion monkey descendants. We didn’t get Hamlet, but we did get pretty much every kind of smut imaginable (including Hamlet parody porn). There’s even a name for it: Rule 34, which is generally stated, “if it exists, there is porn of it.” (Don’t bother looking up the other rules; they pretty much all suck.)

She goes on to theorize that there might possibly be worthwhile stuff out there and to wonder why you have to look so hard for it.

Rand Gestures, Just the Vax, Ma’am Dept. 0

Rekha Basu spotlights a (yet another) disconnect in Rand Paul’s reasoning. Here’s a bit:

Rand Paul said a curious thing when asked, in reference to the measles outbreak across 14 states, if government should require parents to vaccinate their children. . . .

“States don’t own the children,” declared Paul, who is considering a run for president. “Parents own the children.”

No, we don’t own our children. From slavery to child sexual abuse, the notion of owning another human has led to nothing good. Legally, we’re responsible for our kids and their care, feeding and safety until they’re old enough to take care of themselves. But they are autonomous human beings, which is why, unlike property, there are laws and standards governing what we can and can’t do to them culled not just from individual whims and wishes, but from knowledge of child development, mental and physical health and education.

Torturous Reasoning 0

The Booman:

Yes, if you commit torture you can be convicted of a crime – in Alabama. Not however, by the US Government, provided you were employed by the US Military and the CIA to torture “detainees” during the Bush Administrations “War on Terror.”

Be polite when you are loaded.

Detectives looking into the incident reported that Huber was showing his Romania .762X39 mm AK-47 rifle to a friend. Huber handed the rifle to his friend, who believing the rifle was not loaded, pulled the trigger firing the rifle striking Huber.

Politeness is essential in the retail industry.

A sporting goods store employee was injured Sunday in an accidental shooting inside the store.

(snip)

Bruce R. Foote, 43, of Mebane, was on the floor when police arrived, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper left leg. The incident occurred in the hunting goods area, where the store’s firearms are displayed. Police determined the round came from Foote’s own handgun, which he is licensed to carry, a release said Sunday night.

Chris Christie sits on examining table holding his contradictory statemens on vaccines. Doctor says,

In related news, Michelle Goldberg wonders why Republicans chose to hop on the anti-vaxxer train. Here’s a bit:

It is grotesque that, in the midst of the current measles outbreak, some leading Republicans are humoring vaccine denialists, but it is not surprising. It is, rather, a near-perfect illustration of the craziness gap in American politics. Vaccine skepticism is one of those issues, like 9/11 Trutherism, where parts of the fringe right and fringe left, each driven by their own distinct fears about authority, curve around and meet each other. Yet only the fringe right finds indulgence among mainstream politicians.
