Sportswriter extraordinaire Bob Molinaro has the numbers:

Remember when shark attacks were the summer’s big story? A recent report claims that in 2015, deaths worldwide from selfies gone horribly wrong are greater – 12 to 8 – than fatalities caused by underwater predators.

“Can You Give Me Sanctuary?
I Must Have a Place To Hide,
A Place for Me To Hide”
0

Dan Casey considers causes, both proximate and approximate:

Anyone who would argue that the flow of migrants (from the Middle East–ed.) is not the responsibility of the United States would have to argue that the U.S. history of involvement in the Middle East since at least 2001 simply did not occur. That might be something that delusional or lying candidates for president, Democratic and Republican, might maintain, but people who live in the real world know better.

Inside Pitch or Foul Ball? 0

Ron Littlepage has the play-by-play:

During a closed-door meeting with North Florida Republicans last month, (Florida state Rep. Janet–ed.) Adkins said, “Are there any reporters in here? Any reporters? OK, so inside baseball.”

She then threw a high, hard inside pitch, explaining how redesigning U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s congressional district on an east-west alignment instead of its current north-south serpentine shape would help end the Democrat’s long career.

Because that alignment would include a lot of prisons, and the African-American inmates housed there would not be able to vote even though they would be counted as residents for creating a minority access district.

Now that, if not voter fraud, is fraud with voters.

Charlie Pierce:

If religion comes into the public square, it is as vulnerable as any other human institution to be pelted with produce. Ignorance does not become wisdom just because you gussy it up with the Gospels.

Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 0

Still not bad, according to Northjersey.com

Weekly applications for jobless aid rose 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 267,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. The four-week average, a less volatile figure, declined to 271,750.

(snip)

Employers have added an average of 221,000 jobs a month in the past three months, a solid pace and above the average of 189,000 in the preceding three months. The unemployment rate has fallen to 5.1 percent, a seven-year low.

(I just couldn’t face Bloomberg’s caterwauling about how its “experts” were wrong yet again.)
