A Quibble:

I would argue that it’s not Democrats who were caught unawares; Democrats are aware.

That’s why they are Democrats.

It’s the purists, the “both sides do it,” the “both sides are equally bad,” the “my vote doesn’t count,” the “they’re all alike” crowds and their dupes, symps, and fellow travelers who left the back door open while they were busily uploading selfies to Infantgram and posting screeds at the Zuckerborg.

Now I think that I was wrong (about opposing Harriet Miers–ed.). Not about her jurisprudence, but about my distaste for her “qualifications.” Looking at it through the lens of Kavanaugh, Harriet Miers clears the very low bar of having never been accused of trying to rape somebody. She also didn’t go on Fox News or write self-serving op-eds in the Wall Street Journal, trying to drum up Republican-base support for her nomination. I don’t find any accusations that she lied under oath to Congress. I don’t find any accusations that she drunkenly got into a bar fight, or grew aggressive after losing a game of dice.

Also, too.

Jay Bookman considers the recent New York Times reporting on Donald Trump’s ersatz business acumen. A snippet:

He (Trump–ed.) is not a wildly successful business genius; he just played one on TV. And as revealed in extensive business records of the Trump family, it was his father Fred who made the fortune; Donald made the myth.

Frame One: Woman to man: Tax avoidance schemes and fraud built Trump's wealth. Frame Two (pans out to reveal that the two are in a bookstore): Man gestures towards a copy of

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Be polite as you execute carry out your parental duties.

A Portland mom was arrested Thursday after her gun apparently fired by accident in a Northeast Portland elementary school cafeteria while she was picking up her child, police say.

Had the students been armed, no doubt this would not have happened. Just ask the NRA.
