Establishmentarianism 0

Michael in Norfolk argues that the Republican Party is in the grip of the Establishmentarians.

. . . I continue to believe one of the major causations for the Republican Party’s descent into something hideous where anti-democracy sentiments, racism and religous extremism flourish is the rise of evangelicals and Christofascists within the GOP and the lockhold they now hold on GOP primary voters. Many evangelicals come from traditions that supported slavery and then segregation and little of that mindset has really changed.

Afterthought:

I think he has a point. It would help to explain in part the devolution of a political party into a personality cult.

Decoding de Code: “Parents’ Rights” 0

Michael in Norfolk clarifies the concept.

What the real goal of the “parents’ rights” groups – many funded by far right dark money – and elected officials pandering to the GOP base is to force the views of a loud (and vicious) minority on all Americans and in the process rewrite history to meet their often white supremacist beliefs and ban books and curriculums that they in their ignorance and prejudice find offensive.

At the Idaho State Journal, Leonard Hitchcock argues that today’s right-wing wants to roll back America’s clock to the 1950s.

Personally, I think he’s off by about precisely a century, but his article is worth a read.

Roy Johnson has figured out the right-wing’s definition of “woke.”

Something they can’t comprehend? It’s woke!

Something they don’t know—and don’t want to know the truth? It’s woke!

Global warming? Gun reform? Expand Medicaid so working-class Alabamians have access to quality healthcare? It’s all woke!

Woke is the far right’s sky is falling.

Woke to the Misdirection Play 0

In an article about the failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), Jamelle Bouie gets to the gist of the “woke” misdirection play (emphasis added).

. . . there is no evidence that any diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives were responsible for the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. It is nonsense. And while it shouldn’t be taken seriously on its own terms, this deflection is worth noting for what it represents: the relentless effort to mystify real questions of political economy in favor of endless culture war conflict.

Follow the link to the article, where Boule delves into what really happened at SVB.

Bob Cesca’s interview with King Cyborg.

King Cyborg is a musician and a gay woman from Angola, who fled her native country because of the bigotry and persecution she faced there, only to arrive here in this “nation of immigrants” at a time when bigotry and hate-fullness seem on the rise.

I commend Bob’s and her discussion to your attention, as what she faced in her native country is what some in this nation, those whom Michael in Norfolk refers to as “Christofascists,” would like to see this country become.
