Rat to Bartender: Hey, is this place new? Bartender: Yes. It's a high-end whisky bar. I recommend a Scotch whiskey distilled at least thrice and aged at least six years in oak barrels and served in a tulip glass to preserve the aroma. Rat: Me want bear. Rat turns to Pig: I love to put snobs in their place.

That’s pretty much how I feel when persons around me start talking about “craft beers.” With beers, after the first one, they all taste alike, anyhoo.

Besides, any Scotch, even Olde Rottgutt, is better than every anything else.

It’s just kabuki, folks.

The Great Unwatched 0

I’m okay with cable bundling, for this reason: If cable companies move to a la carte pricing, there is one certainty: We will pay more for less.

I don’t know how they will manage it, but they will manage it.

The video is still a hoot.

Paying for patriotic poseurs.

The Department of Defense and the Jersey Guard paid the Jets a total of $377,000 from 2011 to 2014 for the salutes and other advertising, according to federal contracts. Overall, the Defense Department has paid 14 NFL teams $5.4 million during that time, of which $5.3 million was paid by the National Guard to 11 teams under similar contracts.

Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 0

Somewhat better.

Applications for U.S. jobless benefits declined last week to the lowest level in 15 years, showing employers view a first-quarter slowdown in the economy is probably temporary.

First-time filings for unemployment insurance fell by 34,000 to 262,000 in the week ended April 25, the lowest since April 15, 2000, a Labor Department report showed Thursday in Washington.

(snip)

The four-week average of claims, a less-volatile measure than the weekly figure, declined to 283,750 from 285,000 in the prior week. The number of people continuing to receive jobless benefits dropped by 74,000 to 2.25 million in the week ended April 18, the lowest level since December 2000.

In related news, Bloomberg needs to send its “experts” back to the minors.
