Exercise politeness in your automobile.

According to Police, a man was pulling a weapon from his car and accidentally fired it. The bullet went through the person who grabbed the weapon and the passenger.

Now, about those IQ tests for gun purchases . . . .

Just Another Day in NRA Paradise 0

The current fad among the krool kids seems to be to take a gun to school and blow random persons to kingdom come. This is a uniquely modern and uniquely American phenomena.

Yes, there are occasional mass shootings (normally defined as shootings in which three or more persons are killed or wounded) in other countries, but nothing like what we are seeing here. When I was in school (it seems like a lifetime ago, because it was), school shooting did not happen. So what’s different now?

At Psychology Today Blogs, George Everly offers five reasons for the carnage–for carnage it is. Here are the reasons he cites as primary; follow the link for his justification for each one:

      1. Predatory bullying and marginalization.
      2. Weaponized social media.
      3. Inadequate access to mental health services.
      4. Media coverage.
      5. Firearms.

In related news, the Seattle Times’s Danny Westneat wonders what this means (a snippet, emphasis added):

“The effect of this ‘secondhand terrorism’ on kids is, however, largely undocumented,” the “Generation Parkland” essay (follow the link for the citation–ed.) concluded.

After the inspiring gun protests this spring, I’ve noticed something disturbing creeping in that I recognize from my own generation. There’s acceptance of our country’s insane blood rituals. There’s a realization that “This is America,” as the No. 1 song says.

“Prepare to see students rise up and be called ‘civil terrorists’ and crisis actors,” wrote Cameron Kasky, a Parkland survivor. “Prepare for the right-wing media to attack the survivors.”

It’s not the America I want or grew up in, but it’s clearly the America that someone wants, or we see more other than “thoughts and prayers” emanating from Washington, D. C.

One wonders how twisted and immoral a mind must be to consider such carnage acceptable.

Facebook Frolics 0

Firearms frolics. Here’s a sample:

In the first hours after the Texas school shooting that left at least ten dead Friday, online hoaxers moved quickly to spread a viral lie, creating fake Facebook accounts with the suspected shooter’s name and a doctored photo showing him wearing a “Hillary 2016” hat.

(snip)

The fake accounts included the name of Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the 17-year-old student and suspect that police say is now in custody, and included a photo taken from his Facebook that had been changed to include a hat from Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Soulless bastards.

Crossing the teas of politeness . . . .

The man reportedly told Presswood that he had been working in his garden at home when he asked his friend if she would fix him a sandwich.

As she did that, he headed into an outbuilding to get a glass of sweet tea off the shelf above his head.

As he brought the tea down, however, it apparently knocked off the firearm, which landed on the floor in a way that the hammer clicked and the gun went off.

Walk politely.

A 47-year-old Pullman man was transported to Gritman Medical Center after he accidentally shot himself in the leg about 9:30 p.m. Saturday near Laird Park.

According to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office, the man told deputies he was walking when the .22 caliber pistol in his pocket discharged.

The stupid.

It burns.

Be polite to your friends.

“This is a horrible tragedy, but it was an accident,” defense attorney Alex Parsons said.

Anderson called 911 Sunday and reported that he had accidentally shot his friend in the chest, police said. The only witness was the victim’s sister, who is also Anderson’s girlfriend, police said.

In an unusual development, the accidental shootist is being charged with manslaughter.

Early practice:

A man planning to do some target shooting at Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center accidentally shot himself in the leg while still in his vehicle, a range manager confirmed Friday.

Mike Brooks, outdoor education manager at the range, said a man accidentally shot himself in his upper right thigh with a 9mm handgun.

Clearly, he needs some practice . . . .

Werner Herzog’s Bear shares his musing about Donald Trump’s speech at to the NRA. It is worth a read. Here’s a nugget:

Now let’s play a game. Let’s imagine we are behind the veil of ignorance in an unnamed country. If the leader of that country went to an organization advocating gun proliferation, whose convention attacked political dissent and the press, and that leader spent his speech ranting against his enemies, how would we view it? This certainly does not sound like the behavior of a democratic leader. It sounds like a despot. . . .

Be polite to domestic animals.

The horse’s owner had noticed some changes in its behavior, and upon observing the injury Saturday morning called in a veterinarian.

It appeared the horse had been shot in the side two to three days earlier, DeMars said.

“Right now, we believe it’s an accidental thing, and an isolated incident,” DeMars said, adding, “We don’t believe anyone else’s horses are in danger.”

Of course, had the horse been packing, it could have defended itself. Just ask the NRA.

A study by the Associated Press gives evidence that more guns in more schools will not the be panacea the NRA claims it will. Here’s a snippet:

They are the “good guys with guns” the National Rifle Association says are needed to protect students from shooters: a school police officer, a teacher who moonlights in law enforcement, a veteran sheriff.

Yet in a span of 48 hours in March, the three were responsible for gun safety lapses that put students in danger.

The school police officer accidentally fired his gun in his Virginia office, sending a bullet through a wall into a middle school classroom. The teacher was demonstrating firearm safety in California when he mistakenly put a round in the ceiling, injuring three students who were hit by falling debris. And the sheriff left a loaded service weapon in a locker room at a Michigan middle school, where a sixth-grader found it.

Indeed, casual reading of the newspapers shows that more guns seldom solves a problem. Facts, though, will certainly not be allowed to interfere with the NRA’s worship of their steel idol.
