Get a drop on politeness.

When they arrived, they found a 42-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his calf. His 36-year-old spouse was also at home.

The man told police his friend dropped a handgun that discharged and struck his leg then left when 911 was called.

The hunt for politeness continues.

Corwin M. Johnson, of Aurora, Minn., was in the (deer)stand near the 5800 block of Stepetz Road 53 in White Township, about 5 miles southwest of his hometown, when someone from the teen’s hunting party found him dead late Saturday afternoon, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

Does no one teach hunting safety any more?

Be polite to your friends.

The admitted shooter, also 20 years old, told police he and his close friend were handing a gun he though was unloaded.

The gunman said when he pulled the trigger, the weapon fired and shot his friend in the head.

About those responsible gun owners (emphasis added) . . . .

Tenisha D. Kallenback, 31, told a deputy she got into an argument after a small collision on Siloam Rd. and Powersville-Main.

(snip)

The report says they parked and the arguing continued.

The woman said she pulled a gun out of her console but did not point it at anyone. The deputy asked her why she pulled out the gun and she said that she sometimes has a bad temper, according to the report.

Just the Facts, Ma’am 0

At Psychology Today Blogs, Alice LoCicero provides an interesting set of links to studies about the positive correlation between the “presence of firearms and violence.”

I commend her article to your attention.

(When you read the article, you will understand why this happened.)

Monetize the politeness.

The two claimed to be in the shower at the time of the home invasion but authorities found a dry shower mat and bath. Investigators found evidence showing someone tried to clean up bloody footprints in the house. Authorities found a sock full of bullets, similar to the ones used in the shooting, placed in a way as if someone tried to hide them. Detectives learned Pelton had no money and her father was paying their living expenses. The couple then claimed the shooting was accidental and Teixeira got rid of the gun.

The motive?

The sheriff’s office says the couple hoped to get cash from the company that manages their home. They contacted a personal injury law firm after being released from the hospital. Deputies said the claim of thousands missing from the “phantom” safe is unfounded.

Let the Massacres Continue 0

Daniel Ruth excoriates the response of Donald Trump and many others to the most recent American gun massacre. If his column sounds kind of tired, the words “most recent” in the preceding sentence may give you a hint as to why. Here’s a snippet (emphasis added):

Trump dismissed the Sutherland Springs tragedy as the perverse handiwork of an individual with “mental health” issues. “This isn’t a guns situation,” the president of the United States said before resuming his thoughts and prayers.

Even more bizarrely, Trump expressed astonishment that a gunman could enter a church in rural Texas and kill 26 people. “Who would think a thing like this could ever happen?” he wondered.

To answer Trump’s question there in second paragraph, anyone who pays freaking attention to the headlines, for Pete’s sake.

This is the very picture of weaponized imbecility.

Hollow Hearts and Empty Prayers 0

At Psychology Today Blogs, Arthur Dobrin explores the hollow hypocrisy of “thoughts and prayers.” A snippet”

The Hallmark card response waiting to be taken off the shelf is inadequate. It is action that is needed. When society realized that unregulated drinking wreaked havoc on highways, we instituted strictly laws around drinking and driving. Those whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters need to get relief in terms of aid that helps them rebuild their lives. When an illness becomes an epidemic, we need to not only stanch its spread but put in place measures that prevent a future outbreak.

If all we say is “sorry for your loss” when that loss isn’t addressed by action that prevents further deaths, then the expressions of sympathy can actually be harmful. Saying isn’t the same as doing. Saying the right words may make the speaker feel good but it only helps if there is some action attached to it.

The hunt for politeness continues.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting was reported late Saturday morning halfway between Milroy and Tracy. Investigators say a hunter shooting at a deer hit another hunter beyond the deer.

The wounded hunter was hit in the leg and was taken to a Tracy hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed as everyone was wearing “blaze orange” and (I admit the following is my own addition, because I know how to shoot) stupid is not a crime. Bullets carry (a .22 will carry for a mile), and it is stupid not to make sure your shot is clear both before and after the target.

Politeness takes practice.

Police said an accidental shooting happened at 3:45 p.m. The victim was in the woods target shooting with another person when the incident occurred.

Authorities said the victim was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

From time to time, politeness may require empty gestures.

Authorities say a teenager who pulled the trigger on what he thought was an empty handgun fired a bullet that went through the family dog and hit his grandmother, killing the woman at the scene.

Kenny Payne, the police chief in Plaquemine, Louisiana, told news outlets that the shooting appears to be accidental.

Be polite to your neighbor.

“As I was getting ready to grab my phone, I heard a loud bang and my TV flew forward,” he said. “I thought at first that my TV must have exploded.”

He then realized after seeing his arm bleeding and the hole in the wall that he had been peppered by a shotgun blast.

Rosette said his neighbors and the person who had shot the gun came running after they heard him yell.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, some of this stuff makes Three Stooges shorts look like Shakespeare.

The hunt for politeness progresses.

A woman has been killed in a hunting accident on the first day of deer season in Maine.

Karen Wrentzel, 34, was shot dead around 10.30am on Saturday morning in a heavily wooded area near Hebron, Maine, in the first hunting fatality the state has seen in four years.

Family members said that Wrentzel was on her own property digging for rocks and gems when the incident occurred.

The story goes on to say that the property was not “posted” and that she wasn’t wearing “blaze orange.” It implies (unitentionally, I believe) that it was her own damn fault for looking like a furry severeal-hundred-pound four-legged animal in the eyes of the shooter, who is held to a lower standard because he has a hunting license.
