A case of filial politeness.

Afterthought:

It occurs to me that one of the sales techniques of the merchants of death is marketing fear. They have done so successfully, so that “shoot first, don’t ask questions,” has now become the default response of far too many oxymoronic “responsible gun owners.”

Show off your politeness at the high school sporting event.

According to a Facebook post from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Scott Yeager of Bremen was arrested after police determined a gun was negligently discharged during an 11-team invitational at Rochester High School.

An FCSO deputy was already in attendance when the shot rang out. Police later determined Yeager had two loaded handguns in his backpack.

On the bright side, they did conceded that it was negligence.

He had politeness in the bag.

A man died after he accidentally shot himself in the leg with a 9mm handgun in front of his home in Moravian Falls on Feb. 22, said Chief Deputy Logan Kerr of the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

Kerr said an investigation determined that Benjamin Russell Calloway, 70, of Spring Meadows Lane, was shot when the handgun fell out of a golf bag and went off.

I live next to a golf course. (No, I don’t golf–I just point and laugh.) I have not yet seen anything take place on that golf course which would require the presence of a portable phallus, well, a portable phallus other than the ones normally toted about on a golf course.

I do not think it an exaggeration to say that America’s firearms fetish would give Freud pause.

Gene Collier, writing at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, sees parallels between two rather dissimilar figures: Donald Trump and Wayne LaPierre, long-time head of the National Rifle Makers Association.

A snippet:

Though LaPierre withstood his moment of truth without any of the typical wailing and victimization of the oleaginous real estate mogul (save for an early reference to a witch hunt), the Trump and LaPierre narratives are of a certain parallel: Two men of at one time inordinate power who eventually got themselves exposed as common crooks.

Remember, “responsible gun owner” is an oxymoron . . .

An SAPD sergeant told KSAT that a man heard a noise in the backyard and went to retrieve a weapon. While obtaining the weapon, the man told police the weapon accidentally discharged, sending a bullet through a wall and into his mother’s bedroom. The bullet then struck his mother in her chest.

. . . and “accidentally” and “negligently” are not synonyms.

We are a society of stupid.
