Yet more responsible gun owners . . . .

Vermont Fish & Wildlife say that the shooting occurred on private land and that another hunter had mistaken the victim for a bear. None of the parties involved were wearing blaze orange, which is highly recommended to avoid hunting incidents.

Guns and stupid, guns and stupid.

Once again, we are reminded that politeness is a family value.

Yet another “responsible gun owner” demonstrates that the phrase “reponsible gun owner” is an oxymoron.

And we meet another responsible (sic) gun owner.

Exhibit politeness at your local center of commerce.

We are a failing state.

And again we are reminded that politeness is a family value.

Aside:

I created this category in the very early days of this blog after being stopped at a light behind a rickety old car plastered with NRA bumper stickers saying that “an armed society is a polite society.”

I know how to use guns, and I know how to recognize stupid, and I realized that I was seeing stupid about guns.

I am neither prescient nor intuitive. (I am, however, observant, but the problem with being observant is that you have to turn it on for it to work. I often forget to turn it on . . . .) Nevertheless, I did not expect the tidal wave of stupid gunnuttery that today engulfs us.

We are again reminded that politeness is a family value.

We are a broken society.

The Associated Press’s Gillian Flaccus runs the numbers. A snippet:

Eight million Americans became first-time gun owners between 2019 and 2021, said Jeffrey Butts, director of the research and evaluation center for the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at City University of New York.

“We already had 400 million guns in circulation. So when you bump that up and include a lot of first-timers in the population, you get accidents, you get precipitous behavior, you get people reacting to small insults and conflicts with their guns because they’re in their pocket now,” he said.
