In an eerily prescient article at Psychology Today Blogs (given that there was yet another school shooting on the day it was published, Dr. Tahir Rahman looks at the factors which may contribute to mass shootings. Here are two of the points he makes:

• Extreme overvalued beliefs (EOBs) and not delusions are a key driver of most school and mass shootings.
• Online subcultures provide an echo chamber for the nurturance of extreme overvalued beliefs.

Yet another “responsible gun owner” commits yet another random act of politeness.

A New York City teacher was struck by a stray bullet on the eve of the first day of school while setting up his classroom, police said.

The bullet flew through the window of the sixth-floor classroom, striking the 33-year-old teacher in his right hand, police said.

Yet another oxymoronic “responsible gun owner” exposes a child to politeness.

An eight-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself with a loaded gun left in a car, as his mother was shopping.

The boy was alone in the car in Lehi, Utah, on Monday, when he was said to have found the loaded gun underneath a seat.

Yeah, I know I’ve typed those words too many times.

That’s because it keeps happening time after time.

Yet another child plays with politeness.

According to police, the 16-year-old female was handling a handgun inside a bedroom when it discharged, striking (and injuring–ed.) the one-year-old child.

Another “responsible gun owner” exposes a child to politeness.

Yet another child is sacrificed to the NRA’s leaden idol.

A four-year-old child was able to get to a holstered gun and accidentally shot himself, according to officials.

Officials say the father got out of his truck to adjust a trailer and that’s when the child got into the glove box, where Brusly PD says the gun was secured and holstered.

“Secured.”

Yeah. Right.

Yet another “responsible gun owner” exercises his responsibility.

Police say 51-year-old Francisco Griffin opened fire on the block while arguing with a woman.

Video obtained by Action News shows a woman walking to her car and then a gunshot being fired.

The stray bullet traveled across the street to a second-floor window and struck 67-year-old Deborah Strang in her bed (she was fortunately only slightly injured–ed.).

Too many guns. Too much stupid.

Yet another “responsible gun owner” chooses to settle a dispute with politeness.

Addendum:

The “responsible gun owner” may be required to accept responsibility.

Settle disputes over parking places with politeness.

Thus passeth another day in the NRA’s Gun Den of Eden.

A 5-year-old Utah boy died when he accidentally shot himself with a handgun in a small town south of Salt Lake City on Thursday, police said.

Lt. Mike Wall with the Santaquin Police Department told KSL-TV the boy found a 9 mm handgun in the back room of his house and fired a single shot.

He may have “accidentally” shot himself, true, but some “responsible gun owner” negligently left that firearm where he could get at it.

Too many guns. Too much stupid.

It is not a good idea to go to bed with politeness.

One more time, “accidental” and “negligent” are not synonyms. Law enforcement and news media should stop pretending that they are.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said an employee at the business complex brought a gun in their bag and the weapon fired when they dropped the bag.

One person was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound.

Once again, politeness becomes childs’ play.

Yet another oxymoronic “responsible gun owner” exposes a child to politeness.

Police believe the victim was preparing to leave and placed his gun on a nearby chair.

Shortly after, a two-year-old grabbed the gun.

“The child accidentally discharged the firearm, shooting the victim,” Chesterfield Police said.

Too many guns. Too much stupid.
