Don’t let politeness take a back seat.

Guns and stupid, guns and stupid,
They go together like love and Cupid.

A race to politeness.

There was recently a letter to the editor of my local rag arguing that guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

Funny how gun nuts always leave out the key modifier.

It’s people with guns that kill people.

Sure, people with knives and bricks and baseball bats and even corkscrews kill people too, but not nearly so many people, nor so quickly.

Usher in the New Year with politeness.

Shoot first, ask questions later.

In the eight-minute 911 call, Hairston’s mother told a dispatcher that her husband accidentally shot their daughter. The hysterical mother begged for an ambulance as a man in the background said repeatedly, “Breathe, baby.”

“My husband made a mistake and shot her because he thought she was an intruder,” the mother said. “She was in our garage and my husband just didn’t know what was going on. Oh, my God.”

Thus passeth another day in NRA paradise.

We are a broken society.

A surprise holiday visit from the polite.

As we all know, politeness takes practice.

Settle domestic disputes with politeness.

Celebrate Christmas with politeness.

And we are again reminded that “responsible gun owner” is an oxymoron.

Be polite to the worker at the drive-thru window.

Pack politely when you prepare to fly the fiendly skies.

Politeness is a family value.

While you are doing your Christmas shopping, remember to demonstrate politeness.

Exercise politeness while preparing to promote yourself on “social” media.

One more time, “social” media isn’t. Indeed, methinks it is proving itself to be plague and curse upon the polity and upon politeness.

Children should play politely.

Be polite to other drivers of motorized conveyances whilst traversing the nation’s highways and byways.

We are a broken society.

Politeness is a family value.

Aside:

One more time, “accidental” and “negligent” are not synonyms. This child will bear the weight of his parents’ negligence for the rest of his life.
