Tell Them What They Want To Hear 0

Jeff Shapiro writes of Virginia Governor Trumpkin’s–er–loose relationship with consistency, particularly as regards his position on abortion. A snippet (emphasis added); follow the link for the evidence.

Youngkin’s rhetorical gymnastics — on an issue that might put out of reach for his party Luria’s and two other Democrat-held suburban congressional seats — do not conceal a reality: He refuses to deal straight with Virginians, the majority of whom favored Roe v. Wade. We know Youngkin stands to the right on abortion, but how far right depends on his audience.

Misdirection Play, the Transphobia Tactic 0

At the San Francisco Chronicle, Scott Wiener, a California state senator who recently received bomb threats about his sexual orientation, susses the strategy. Here’s a bit (emphasis added); follow the link for the rest.

This is a classic diversion tactic. Right-wing leaders are basically saying: See, it’s the queer people who are ruining everything. Not the wage stagnation we’ve created by gutting unions and keeping the minimum wage absurdly low. Not the pandemic, which we’ve all but ignored and told you was fake. Not the increasing temperatures and frequent natural disasters that we pretend aren’t related to climate change. This culture war is designed to avert attention away from the men behind the curtain who can’t govern.

Take the Tour 0

Mangy composes a theme song for the Republican Party. From the web page:

The Republican cries of “how dare the Democrats accuse us of aiding in the preparation for an insurrection” seem pretty pathetic once you’ve viewed the security video of Representative Barry Loudermilk leading MAGATs on his fascinating photo excursion of the bowels of The Capitol. Sure, everybody that goes to DC for the first time says, “The one thing I hope to get to see is not the rotunda, not the statues of past statesmen, but more than anything, the basement corridors, stairways and security checkpoints. They are reportedly among the most beautiful in the world!” I’m sure the one creep that took the tour, then posted things like “Nancy Pelosi, we’re comin’ for you!” probably only meant that he was anxious to meet her and have her sign his autograph book. Nice try Barry. Having grown up on a diary farm, Mangy Fetlocks knows BS when he sees it, so he just HAD to write a little song so Loudermilk’s particular line of BS could at least be set to music.

“A Republic, If You Can Keep It” 0

At The Denver Post, Air Force Major General (ret.) Irv Halter points out that “it’s not the economy, stupid.” Here’s a bit from his article (emphasis added):

We’re Americans. We do not swear an oath to a leader or to a political party. We are a nation of laws and owe allegiance to the Constitution alone. We have fought for it, died for it. When the Constitution is subverted, the danger to our Republic reaches far beyond our disagreements about politics and culture. Within it, we can accomplish anything, debate anything, fix anything. Outside of it, the American enterprise dies.

What happened leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, was an organized attack on our founding document and nation. Despite overwhelming evidence, people who should have been saying “no” to the lie and the liar, instead marched in lockstep behind him.
