It’s the American Way 0
Tony Norman looks at the college admission cheating scandal and argues that, once you look past the patriotic propaganda, cheating is woven into the fabric of America. Here’s a nugget:
We’re even cheating the future by saddling coming generations of Americans with trillions of dollars of debt to finance obscene tax cuts for the wealthy. Our descendants will also inherit a much-degraded environment because the political party most devoted to protecting the interests of the rich doesn’t believe in climate science.

Budget Bluster 0
Remember, in Republican World, a federal budget deficit is a cause for crocodile fears only when a Democrat is in the White House. Here’s a bit from the AP’s report on the current state of the deficit:
Trump’s 2017 tax cut bears much of the blame, along with sharp increases in spending for both the Pentagon and domestic agencies and the growing federal retirement costs of the baby boom generation. Promises that the tax cut would stir so much economic growth that it would mostly pay for itself have been proved woefully wrong.

Chris-Crossed 0
Chris Christie demonstrates that it is indeed possible to espouse two opposing views at almost the same time.
Cohen Events 0
I know that I claimed that nothing new except a few stray facts and details emerged from the testimony of Michael Cohen before the House Oversight Committee.
Nevertheless, Shaun Mullen reports that he learned something, not from the testimony, but from some of the questioners.
“Entertainment Republicanism” 0
David interviews Republican strategist and Trump opponent Rick Wilson regarding his contempt for Donald Trump and the Red Hats. I found it interesting; give it a listen to find out where the title of this post came from. (Warning: He slips into a little reflex bothsiderism about half-way through, but I think his comments about Democratic strategy incisive.)
“It Can Happen Here” 3
At The Sacramento Bee, Sasha Abramsky considers Donald Trump’s bogus “national emergency” and sounds a warning. An excerpt:
That, I suppose, should not be a surprise. At every step of the way over the past two years of Trump’s authoritarian and sadistic governance, when the GOP has had the chance to stand up to him and do the right thing, it has chosen instead to roll over. It has done exactly the wrong thing – choosing to placate its increasingly fanatical base, no matter the long-term damage to the country’s democratic infrastructure and global reputation.
Suffer the Children 0
Yastreblyansky marvels at the contortions to which the Trump administration is willing to go to justify stealing children from their parents.
The Trumpettes May Blow . . . . 2
. . . but Leonard Pitts, Jr., doesn’t care to listen. Indeed, he publishes his “don’t bother to read” list. An excerpt:

At this stage of the game, how much satisfaction is there in being able to say, “I told you so?”
About as much as there is in buying a fire extinguisher after the house burns down.
