A Notion of Immigrants 0

The Arizona Republic’s E. J. Montini highlights the hypocrisy. A snippet:

Donald Trump is able to go to the U.S. border with Mexico and rail about a crisis because he made sure there was a crisis to rail about.

Earlier this year, Republicans in the U.S. Senate bowed to Trump’s demands and killed a bipartisan security bill introduced by Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma and Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut.

(snip)

The bipartisan bill was not bad for border security. It was not bad for those looking to stop the flow of illegal drugs. It was not bad for those working to solve the asylum problem. It was not bad for the border patrol, since it included more officers and enhanced security.

In essence, the bill was not bad for America, just the opposite.

The border security bill was only bad for one thing — Donald Trump’s campaign..

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

Mangy Fetlocks has noticed certain traits and behaviors that seem universal among adherents to the MAGA movement. For those who wish to become MAGAts (but have not sustained any serious head injury or possess a profound personality disorder) Mangy wrote this song to outline some of the basic tenets every good, blindly-obedient MAGAt needs to master.

Dis Coarse Discourse, Reprise 0

Retired attorney, judge, and a 24-year veteran of the Kansas Army National Guard Thomas Arnhold reveals what he has learned about himself from Republican campaign ads in Missouri. For example:

I am a despicable human, and I am an enemy of the country. The announcers and politicians speak of those not siding with them in a tone that drips with disdain and venom. Apparently, people like me are bent on turning the United States into a cesspool.

At the Idaho State Journal, Leonard Hitchcock looks at why Donald Trump wanted to use an executive order (“Schedule F”) turn civil service jobs over to political appointees who would do his bidding without question. Here’s a bit from his article:

And then there’s a third cause: it turns out that Trump wants to be an autocrat. While president, he was openly envious of the power of the dictators that he met with. And all of his delusions regarding his own superiority have led him to believe that he deserves to have that kind of power.

The Schedule F executive order was a step in that direction. For an autocrat, a government must speak with one voice: that of its ruler.

Thom discusses how Donald Trump is trying to run away from debating Kamala Harris without looking like he’s running away from debating Kamala Harris.

Aside:

Methinks that Trump demands debate broadcasters promise not to fact-check him seems to me sort of maybe a little bit of an indicator that he intends to say things that might be a tab bit less than factual . . . .

Title: It's the very normal super-hero duo: MAGA-Man and his youthful sidekick, Fertility Lad (that is, Donald Trump and J. D. Vance); Trump: I love the flag so much I kiss it every chance I get. Vance: I think childless couples are sociopaths. Trump: But we're no weird. Vance: Don't put it in the paper that we're weird. (Pause) It's no use, MAGA-Man. Our villainous adversaries won't stop calling us weird. Trump: Curse those name-calling cucks and pedos. Is it weird to occasionally mention the late, great Hannibal Lecter? Vance: Holy cinematic reference, MAGA-Man. Of course not! Trump: And what's so weird about innocently questioningg Kamala Harris's ethnicity. Say, are you married to someone of Indian heritage? Vance: Obviously she's not white, but I just love Usha (footnote: actual quote.) Is it creepy to want the government to track women's menstrual cycles to make sure they're not sneaking off to get abortions? Trump: Not by any definition of the word that I understand. We're not weird, Fertility Lad. It is the Democrats who are weird. Vance: And we must enlist our very normal allies such as Roger Stone and Laura Loomer to help us amplify this compelling argument. (Newsflash.) Vance: The MAGA-computer says that someone is trapped on a sinking electric boat with sharks nearby. But wait! The boat owner is a childless cat lady. Trump: A perplexing dilemma. Let's sti on the MAGA-couch and consider our options. Vance: Uh, I'll stand.
