The Dividing Line 0

The editorial board of the Las Vegas Sun looks at Sara Huckabee Sanders’s “response” to President Biden’s State of the Union address and suggests that she got part of it right. A snippet:

. . . Huckabee Sanders delivered the Republican rebuttal, declaring that “the dividing line in America is no longer between right or left.?The choice is between normal or crazy.”

We agree. Though we also think she missed a few adjectives, like dangerous, ignorant, racist, unconstitutional and un-American. The past president’s apologist also needs to take a good long look in the mirror before she starts decrying crazies.

Still Rising Again after All These Years 0

The editorial board of the Las Vegas Sun parses Florida Man’s playbook; they conclude he is implementing a three-pronged strategy to bring back Jim Crow, Here are the prongs:

  • The first is you must separate groups of people as much as possible.
  • Importantly, an essential piece of isolating people from on another is not allowing the history and reality of other people to be discussed.
  • The third essential element needed to create a society that will tolerate racism is to deny the oppressed group equal access to that core of democracy: the ballot box.

Lowering the Barr 0

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gene Collier looks are recent revelations as to the extent of former Attorney-General Bill Barr’s efforts to cover up for curate Donald Trump’s image and suggests that Barr may have set a new standard for U. S. Attorneys-General:

America has long endured attorneys general who’ve demonstrated far less interest in the law or the Constitution than in the political goals of the presidents who appointed them — John Mitchell went to prison for serving Richard Nixon’s nefarious purposes, for example — but Barr might well set new standards for duplicity by the time his total machinations are fully understood.
