Still Rising Again after All These Years 0
Rebecca Watson explores how arithmetic fell afoul of Florida’s ban on critical race theory historical facts. It’s an even uglier and more twisted story than you might expect.

Afterthought:
When the Republican Party implemented its “southern strategy” in Richard Nixon’s second presidential campaign, it expected to use racism and bigotry as a tool to gain and retain power.
Now, five decades later, the Republican Party has become the tool and racism and bigotry its wielders.

Brian Greenspun, publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, discusses the importance of voting in a era in which Christofascists (to borrow a term from Michael in Norfolk) would seize control of women’s bodies. In the course of his article, he notes an implication of the impending ruling which I have not seen mentioned elsewhere (emphasis added):
And remember this: A government that can force a woman to carry a baby to term can also justify a decision telling her she cannot carry a baby to term. Think China if you are the least bit confused about that.

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:
While Republicans keep attempting to score points by hinting that there was something sinister (yet undisclosed) on Hunter Biden’s discarded laptop hard drive, Donald Trump actually physically stole top secret government documents and took them to Mar-a-Lago, in a breach of national security and every record-keeping protocol imaginable. Somehow the Repubs haven’t wanted to weigh in on that. Nonetheless, a federal grand jury has now been convened to investigate just that, and they don’t convene grand juries for illegally sharing casserole recipes.

We are again reminded that that’s not scripture, but that it is Republican policy.
Originalist Sin 0
Methinks that the writer of a letter to the editor of the Las Vegas Sun has a point.
A Moment of Venn 0
Genevieve Grabman looks at the dismal state of health care for expectant mothers in the United States. It’s not a pretty picture. Here’s how she starts her article (emphasis added):
The irony is that, in our political landscape, the overlap between those who would force women to have unwanted babies deny women control of their own bodies and those who would deny them more, better, and less expensive healthcare is–er–substantial.

Fundamental to the preservation of democracy is that citizens play by the rules.
I don’t think it’s a stretch of the imagination realize that one of our two major political parties has decided to stop doing so.

Will Bunch is less than optimistic.

Yes, I’m quite sure that’s not an understatement.
