In the Des Moines Register, a parent pens a letter to her governor, who has claimed that he hasn’t seen data that masks help protect against COVID-19. A snippet:
Governor, no one is hiding data from you. The data showing masks in schools help reduce COVID-19 transmission is clear and it is not under lock and key. If you need hard copies on your desk, I volunteer to hand-deliver them to you.
She then proceeds to deliver a downpour of said data.
Give it a read.

And the moral of the story is, “Show a Republican a new depth and he’ll stoop to it.”

David delivers an epic rant about Republican hypocrisy. And he is correct on every count.
Afterthought:
I’m a Southern Boy. I grew up under Jim Crow and went to segregated schools. I took my degree in history, and, though my college did not recognize concentrations in awarding degrees (nor did it recognize minors, or I would have a minor in sociology), I concentrated in U. S. Southern.
I am descended from persons who, as the saying goes, held slaves; some of those ancestors wore the grey.
I know a racist when I see one.
As far as I can tell, the two unifying principles of today’s Republican Party are racism and greed.
The Motive behind the Madness 0
Mac Stipanovich attempts to understand Florida’s Governor Maskless Marauder Ron DeSantis. A nugget (emphasis added):

A Notion of Immigrants 0
The Arizona Republic’s Elvia Diaz highlights the hypocrisy of Republicans’ tears over the plight of Afghan asylum seekers, even as they separated the families and caged the children of those closer to our borders. A nugget:
But the Republicans’ hypocrisy have no limits. To them, the desperation of asylum seekers from anywhere is just another weapon to attack President Joe Biden.
Don’t forget these are the same Republicans who’ve been attacking the president over the Central American asylum seekers also fleeing all sorts of violence and extreme poverty.
Freedom’s Just Another Word for–Just What Exactly? 0
Paul Krugman considers Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s response (or lack thereof) to the growing public health COVID crisis in Florida. He wonders why DeSantis persists in pandering to (and on) the pandemic in the face of rising infection and death rates and why he actively fights common sense public health measures such as masks* and immunization records.
A nugget (emphasis added):
So let’s talk about what the right means when it talks about “freedom.” Since the pandemic began, many conservatives have insisted that actions to limit the death toll — social distancing, wearing a mask and now getting vaccinated — should be matters of personal choice. Does that position make any sense?
(snip)
My answer is that when people on the right talk about “freedom,” what they actually mean is closer to “defense of privilege” — specifically the right of certain people (generally white male Christians) to do whatever they want.

*If masks are so debilitating, how is it that surgeons and nurses have managed for years to successfully complete complex surgeries while wearing them?
Heck, I’ve gotten so used to wearing one that I almost feel nekkid when I’m in a store without on–oh, never mind.
