A Case of Projection 0

David Atkins makes a case that Donald Trump cannot understand the concepts such as “the rule of law,” “justice,” and the “public good” because he believes everyone thinks the way he does.

Methinks Atkins is onto something.

The Roll-Back 0

Gordon Weil espies a disturbing trend. Here’s the nub of his article (emphasis added):

But a divide has begun to emerge between them (the two major American political parties–ed.) with some Republicans believing that their party should reverse the trend toward greater democracy. Voter suppression and misusing Senate voting practices have become part of the GOP agenda.

Follow the link for his reasoning.

In a related vein, Professor Richard Cherwitz reminds us that, “once democracy is gone, it’s gone.”

“A Republic, If You Can Keep It” 0

At The Denver Post, Air Force Major General (ret.) Irv Halter points out that “it’s not the economy, stupid.” Here’s a bit from his article (emphasis added):

We’re Americans. We do not swear an oath to a leader or to a political party. We are a nation of laws and owe allegiance to the Constitution alone. We have fought for it, died for it. When the Constitution is subverted, the danger to our Republic reaches far beyond our disagreements about politics and culture. Within it, we can accomplish anything, debate anything, fix anything. Outside of it, the American enterprise dies.

What happened leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, was an organized attack on our founding document and nation. Despite overwhelming evidence, people who should have been saying “no” to the lie and the liar, instead marched in lockstep behind him.

“Just Live with It” Is Not an Option 0

A law professor takes issue with Justice (sic) Clarence Thomas. Here’s how he opens his article; follow the link for the rest.

United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas has said, regarding those who protest the potential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, that “We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like.”

This is a remarkable statement.

By this same philosophy, we should chide those, who were unwilling to “live with” Dred Scott v. Sanford.

The Wall-Eyed Piker 0

The Arizona Republic’s Elvia Diaz points out that Trump’s wall keeps tumbling down, just like everything else (Trump steaks, Trump vodka, Atlantic City casinos, and almost the United States of America) that Donald Trump has been associated with. A snippet:

I’m cracking up over the fact that smugglers have breached Trump’s border wall more than 3,000 times over the past three years.

It’s true. The $15 billion wall, which Trump claimed over and over again that Mexico would pay for, “is no match for a $15 hand saw.”

Even cheaper tools probably would have poked holes in it.
