Bear-Faced Cruelty 0

It’s no surprise, I guess, that some Trump supporter has resorted to animal cruelty and is putting Donald Trump bumper stickers on wild bears in North Carolina. Here’s a bit; more at the link.

The latest report was made Friday and involves a different bear, based on the position of the sticker, HAB (the bear advocacy group Help Asheville Bears–ed.) said. The person who photographed the bear was identified by HAB as “Shelia” and she was quoted saying: “No words can describe my anger and sadness.”

State wildlife officials told McClatchy News they suspect the person responsible for the stickers is using food to get close to the animals, which is illegal in Buncombe County (home of Asheville). It’s also illegal to deface state property, which is another law violated by the stickers, state officials said.

“It appears someone has been feeding bears on purpose and was able to get close enough to slap the sticker on,” according to Colleen Olfenbuttel, the black bear and furbearer biologist for the Wildlife Management Division of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.

Man refuses to wear mask by wielding his politeness.

Police say a man who fired shots at an employee after refusing to wear a mask inside a Lehigh Valley cigar shop has been apprehended following a shootout.

The story goes on to say that employees offered to provide curbside service if he didn’t want to wear a mask. He refused the offer, politely.

And, in more news of the maskless . . . .

Aside:

I went to the eye doctor yesterday for a regular check-up (I’ve worn glasses since 7th grade; the first day I wore them to school, I remember my teacher’s looking right at me sitting there in my assigned seat and saying, “Where’s Frank Bell?”). In the course of the visit, I learned that my ophthalmologist is rather–er–peeved about folks who refuse wear masks in public.

I warned him not to get me started . . . .

The stupid. It burns infects.

According to a criminal complaint, Heidi Ruth Mueller, 35, last month sought to enter a Menards home improvement store near her home in North Mankato, a city 80 miles from Minneapolis.

When Mueller attempted to walk into the business, an employee instructed her she “needs a mask to shop at the store per store policy.” Mueller then “quarreled briefly” with the worker before grabbing the man’s face and pulling his mask down.

Matthew Lee Rupert, 28, is in custody in Chicago on charges of civil disorder, possession of unregistered explosives and participating in and organizing riots, making him the first person to face federal prosecution for allegedly taking part in the fires, looting and other violence that engulfed the Twin Cities since the death of George Floyd in police custody. He is scheduled to appear before a federal judge in Chicago later Monday.

Last Thursday night, Rupert posted on his public Facebook page an invitation for “goons” to join him in traveling to Minneapolis, where he said he was renting hotel rooms and planned to wreak havoc and “take hella good videos.”
