The Republican Party poses a clear and present danger to this noble experiment because, to be blunt, Richard Nixon’s southern strategy has come full circle and consumed the Republican Party. Racism is the only “family value” that Republicans truly care about, and that racism serves today’s “planter” class, just as it served yesteryear’s “planter” class, to protect and consolidate its wealth and power.
