Congress Issa Contemptible 3
At the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Duquesne University law professor Ken Gormley considers contemptible Congress. He focuses on the Republican Party’s willingness to sacrifice everything–history, the law, ethics, the Constitution–to political thuggery.
A nugget:
If Rep. Issa believes he has the power to hold the nation’s chief law enforcement officer in contempt, what would stop Attorney General Holder from returning the favor by arresting Rep. Issa on the streets of Washington for “seditious behavior?” The only thing stopping him would be the Constitution’s command that powers be separated to preclude such monkey business.

People tend to forget Issa is a nobody in California. He tried to run for senate against Boxer, spent a pile of his own money, and got beat in the primary by another nobody. He survives politically because CA is two states — the one that matters, the coast and cities except for the San Diego area — which benefits Issa, and the interior — which is also part of his district. General voters found him contemptible over a decade ago. Remember B-1 Bob Dornan? Issa is like him, only more urbane. A bit like Dana Rohrbacher, too, another classic California lifer but a nobody rep upheld by the extremist wealthy angry white guy constituency of his district.
