That tune, dismissed as Journey-ish — which is accurate, was written by Diane Warren, a songwriter with probably the biggest string of credits in the US. She had a lot of hits for others. You’ll remember the lachrymose “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” the title tune for that comet-hits-the-world summer movie with Bruce Willis. Before that thing was a Star Trek theme, it was fashioned for Rod Stewart.
She was the best at really soapy pop rock that was chart-busting audio tear gas. It’s definitely the music of white America mourning for the good ol’ days. Cue up “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship, which she also penned. I may have to write about this. Hawwwwww.
