As it ever was. The Confederacy was poor. Most of America was although the Northeast had more of a civilization. If the South has endemic poverty greater than the rest of the nation, it’s an enjoyed feature. In the rest of our place, it’s also an imposed feature, if not so gleefully appreciated. This country will never be united. We should accept it, we’re not much better than old Yugoslavia, and start thinking about how to make the best of increasing division. How did Josip Broz Tito handle it all those years?
