Close to midnight on Saturday, Lansing Police were called to a house on West Jolly near Waverly Road. According to authorities, a man accidentally shot himself while holstering a handgun at his home.

We are a society of stupid.

The holstered gun of a lunchroom parent/volunteer at Pinckney’s Navigator Upper Elementary School landed on the floor when the holster fell off the man’s belt as he was “engaging with students in the gym” on Friday, according to a letter that went out to district parents after 3 p.m.

One more time, “responsible gun owner” is an oxymoron.

As every oxymoronic responsible gun owner knows, politeness takes practice.

Yet another random act of politeness.

Only a broken society would choose to live with carnage.

. . . authorities believe the 3-year-old got ahold of a loaded semi-automatic pistol and accidentally shot her 4-year-old sister.

Yet another child is injured in a random act of politeness.

Columbus police told 10TV that the boy was sleeping downstairs in a home on Evergreen Road when a family member accidentally fired a gunshot in the kitchen. The bullet went through the floor and stuck the boy.

Yet another random act of politeness:

According to New Orleans police, the child was with his father and an “acquaintance” outside a home in the 40 block of Westpark Court when the acquaintance’s gun accidentally discharged wounding the child.

Police say the 3-year-old suffered a graze gunshot wound.

Who could have predicted that “responsible gun ownership” would lead to something like this happening over and over again almost every day?

Meanwhile, in a sane universe . . . .

Last year, the Transportation Security Administration seized a record 6,542 guns at airports around the country. Most people who are stopped for having a gun at an airport checkpoint say they forgot they had the weapon with them.

If you’re too stupid to know you’re packing heat, maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to pack heat.

Afterthought:

Yeah, I know that most of them didn’t really “forget.” They just couldn’t face being separated from their portable phalluses.

If you’re too stupid to realize that metal detectors detect metal, maybe you’re too stupid be allowed near anything made of metal.
