A Cracked Shot 0
Mangy comments at his Youtube page:
Wayne LaPierre is held in high regard by many NRA members who supplied him with the money he used to help pay for the $300,000 worth of suits he bought himself at member expense. (a small portion of the millions he lavished on himself and his wife, courtesy of NRA dues and donations.)
One of Wayne’s more self-indulgent projects was to have a film crew document him as he roamed the African savannah in search of a trophy elephant to ‘bag’. One his guides had located an elderly, blind, slow elephant for Wayne to courageously blast, and Wayne’s poorly-placed shot downed the elephant, but didn’t kill it. From a distance of about 12 feet, Wayne pounded three more rounds into the elephant, missing the spot where the guides had helpfully pointed, saying, “Shoot it RIGHT here!”.
With the elephant still alive and well aerated, a guide finally took his gun, and properly put the pachyderm out of its misery, after which there was much congratulating of Wayne, since he’d paid their salaries, or more precisely, NRA rubes had paid their salary. The embarrassing “adventure film” of the expedition was ‘buried”, since slowly torturing an elderly elephant doesn’t really synch with LaPierre’s desire to portray himself as “A good guy with a gun”. Thank goodness, in Wayne’s hunting party there was one ‘good guy with a gun’, but that was the guide, not LaPierre. The only problem was, in the end, the guide shot the wrong dumb animal.

Also, too.

Totally convinced that if background checks were instituted, it could have severe, long-term negative effects on gun sales, (and subsequently on NRA lobbyist donations to campaign funds) NRA poster boys like Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz boldly say NO MORE. (No more questions that is.) A lot of the dead children in school shootings were probably going to expire soon anyway from diseases George Soros manufactured in China with Bill Gates, right?

Here’s what I see: Possessors of assault rifles adore the thrill of shooting those weapons of war.

Misdirection Play, Polite Society Dept. 0
Mark Follman disagrees with the popular notion that mass shooters are mentally ill persons who suddenly “snap.” Here’s a bit of his article:
(snip)
In 2018, a deep investigation of 63 rampage shooters conducted by experts with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit showed that only a quarter of the offenders were known to have been professionally diagnosed with a mental illness of any kind. While it’s possible that some suicidal attackers may have gone undiagnosed, only three of the 63 perpetrators, or about 5 percent of the total examined, had a known psychotic disorder.
Elsewhere, Chris Williams argues America’s refusal to do anything to stop the shootings could almost be classified as “grooming.”
Clearly, mass shooters are somehow not right in the head, but I believe that citing “mental illness” as the reason for their behavior does indeed count as a misdirection play, as it diverts attention from concrete actions, particularly limits on the types of weapons that can be sold and who can buy them, that could, if not prevent them completely, greatly reduce their frequency.
The Other Pandemic 0
Nike Kelly comments on the other pandemic—you know, the one no one willing to confront. Here’s a brief bit:
But America is also ground zero for cluelessness.
