To paraphrase Spiro Agnew, “social” media is full of nattering nabobs of nonsense.
An Uncomfortable Truth 0
Brian Greenspun, publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, looks at the Republican Party’s week-long struggle to select a Speaker and reaches the depressing conclusion that voters get what they vote for (emphasis added). A snippet; follow the link for his reasoning.
I believe we deserve exactly what we are getting right now. There have been no surprises. The entire country has known exactly who these people are and exactly what they want to do.
I know that it’s a depressing thought, but I think he may be onto something.

Resolved 0

Just like those who finally got a large face tattoo, married the hot mean girl half their age, or quit their job and joined the circus, Kevin is about to learn that sometimes getting what you dreamed about can be WAY worse than you ever imagined.
The Function of Dysfunction? 0
Even as normal persons might be tempted to point and laugh (“Republicans in disarray!”) at the Republican Party’s inability as of the time of this writing to select a Speaker of the House, Grung_e_Gene argues that their own dysfunction perversely reinforces their narrative. A snippet (emphasis added):
I commend the rest of his post to your attention.
Also, too.

Much Ado about Who Knows What? 0
Noz tries to figure out why some House Republicans don’t want Kevin McCarthy to be Speaker of the House and concludes that some House Republicans just don’t want Kevin McCarthy to be Speaker of the House.
Meanwhile, on the same topic, Nick Carraway suggests that it’s much ado about a hollow man who stands for nothing.
Me, I suspect it’s just mean for the sake of mean.
We are a flailing state.
Precedented 0
Michael in Norfolk proffers a unexpectedly artful precedent for the present Donald Trump.
Patriot Gamers 0
Tom Moran of the Newark Star-Ledger argues forcefully that patriotism does not mean boosterism, nor does it mean turning a blind eye to a nation’s faults. An excerpt:
Another Special Election in Georgia 0
A newly elected Republican state legislator won’t even make it into office, in yet another example of Republican family values.
Here’s the lede from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
You can’t make this stuff up.
