The Do-Nothing Party 0

Methinks Bill Sher is onto something (emphasis added):

. . . in the short run, Democrats have limited capacity to thwart Trump’s agenda (though I have argued Democrats have wielded what powers they have as well as can be expected).

The people in Washington who can actually stop Trump are not Democrats. They are Republicans. And we should be asking them every day when they will start.

I commend the entire article to your attention.

The Conclave 0

Title: Just Another Day in Washington. Trump: People say Trump is a dictator. I'm not a dictator. I just have the right to do anything I want, because I'm president. Vance: An important distinction, sir. And, if I may add, sir--you should get ten Nobel prices. The wars in Gaza and Ukraine are basically over, if you ignore the fact that they are not. Trump: Many people are saying it. Hegseth: Also, sir, you are a war hero president, commanding the warfighters of the War Department. You provide warriors like me with more clarity and purpose than a fresh bottle of gin. Trump: I deserve some military metals. Hegseth: Consider it done. Vance: And, you are absolutely not a dictator, but it would totally okay if you wre, considering you have now eliminated all crime in D. D. in a matter of days. Hegseth: And despite what the lying media say, your ankles are slim and lively to behold. Miller (materializing from a flying bat): Let's not forget--only you have the sheer will necessary to eradicate all Democrat scum like the vermin they are. Trump: An excellent talking point, Creepy Guy. Be sure to use that when you do media hits. Now, lets get to work. What American company should I shake down next? Flying Bat: Waffle House seems woke to me sir. Trump: You know, maybe everyone shold call me a dictator! Just a joke. Until it's not. Vance: Jawohl, mein Fuhrer.

At The Coloarado Sun, Mike Littwin reports that he has found a quotation from George Orwell that illuminates why the Trump maladministration is attacking the Smithsonian (and I would add, by extension, universities and other institutiolns of learning and remembrance):

From Orwell’s “1984”: “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

Follow the link to see why he thinks that to be the case.

A Loafsome Attack 0

Via Kathryn Rubino at Above the Law, this tribute to the Trump maladministration’s decision to throw the book at someone who threw a sandwich is circulating on “social” media.

Heavily armed law enforcement agent having a sandwich thrown at him captioned,

Rubino’s post has commentary which is well worth a read. A tiny excerpt (emphasis added):

This incident lays bare the hypocrisy of all the early (and empty) rhetoric from the start of the Trump II reign about cutting government waste. MAGA doesn’t want a small government, they want a government that can be bent to their whims. Just like authoritarians everywhere.
