How the Piker Became Wall-Eyed 0

At Psychology Today Blogs, Molly S. Caselltoe analyses the psychology of walls (or, as Bob Cesca might say, “the psychology of wall”). A snippet:

It is easy to project. All of us do it in interpersonal relationships and as members of large groups. We do it more in times of anxiety and stress. In response to the intrusive thoughts about our fears of another, we externalize the emotion outward onto another human or group of humans.

“Mean for the Sake of Mean” 0

In The Roanoke Times, Nancy Liebrecht sums up the Trump administration’s governing philosophy. A snippet:

The Trump administration stated that its harsh policies were not new; it was just “enforcing existing law.” Members of the Obama administration, such as former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, specifically refuted this assertion, but now we have evidence in a Dec. 16, 2017, memo wherein a policy of deterrence was specifically outlined. In this memo Trump administration officials propose making conditions at the southern border so harsh that migrants will be deterred from the trek north. The memo described planned cruelty.

Donald Trump and his administration clearly view cruelty as an appropriate means of achieving their aims.

The Wall-Eyed Piker Makes a Call 0

Frame One: Woman answers phone with

The cartoon above highlights the obvious self-serving nature and irrationality of Donald Trump’s wall call (as when he declares a “national emergency” while saying he doesn’t need to do so, leading persons to wonder, “Where’s the emergency?”).

But this is not a game. Will Bunch warns against ignoring the implications of Trump’s action, however shallow-minded and short-sighted Trump himself may be. A snippet:

We shouldn’t give Trump a free pass for all that craziness, but it’s critical not to take our eye off the ball. After a long era in which U.S, presidents have expanded and occasionally violated America’s constitutional limits on executive power, Trump has plowed through that democratic guardrail at 100 mph, and any system of checks and balances now teeters on the edge of the abyss. . . .

The Little Smirks, Reprise 0

Writing at The Roanoke Times, Nancy Trussell recounts her experience at the Women’s March in Washington, D. C. Remember that the Women’s March was on the same weekend as the annual anti-abortion march, which gave us the Covington Conundrum. A nugget:

At the train station late Saturday, I was chatting with a couple of young black men about the red hats we were seeing all around Union Station. I asked them what they thought MAGA meant. Before they could answer me, one young man, probably 15 years old, and wearing the hat, came over to me, jutted out his hip, and said loudly “What did you just say?” I calmly said to him, in return, “What does MAGA mean to YOU?” He stood back, raised both hands with one finger raised on each hand (not a nice finger) and said… “fh you, lady.” Well, I do believe he answered my question.

Aside:

I got no patience with the persons who have endeavored, apparently successfully, to minimize the conduct of the Covington creeps.

There is no way that using a weaponized smirk to invade the personal space of an old man is anything but disrespectful and offensive, regardless of what may be going on the background. Focusing on the conduct of those Black Israelites over there —–> on the sidelines is an example of the misdirection play at its best.
