Sidebar Troubles–Updated 13

My sidebar’s gone freaky on me. I won’t be able to troubleshoot it until this weekend, so I’ve edited it down as much as I can tonight.

But I can’t remember where Quote of the Day resides (blush).

I’ll have it fixed up by Monday.

Addendum, 5/4/2007:

I think the problem was Fire Stats that I was crowing about in the previous post. This site was slow as the Current Federal Administration’s grasp of reality this morning even after a reboot last night.

Fire Stats was just too much of an additional load for this 10-year old computer.

Teach me to crow.

For a short while there this morning, I had the old sidebar back, then it crashed again.

I have removed all traces of Fire Stats and started to shop for a new server. I think it’s just gotten too much for this old computer.

But you kept the clock, & that’s important.

    From Chris:

“Do like I did when my old keyboard kept getting stuck. Take it apart & wash it with soap & water.”

I’d become a fan of those Quotes of the Day.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken apart my keyboard to clean it. It’s actual quite surprising to see how much filth collects under the keys.

She’s not going to enjoy my father falling into a pile of computer parts in an attempt to build a new server.

Can’t say I like it either, we all know he should be building a computer for me, not another for himself.

The Third: Good answer, he might listen to you. I asked him, where in the world is he going to put another computer? He said and I quote “it can be in the spare room right next to the other computer” AAAARRRGGG!

When Chris took his apart to clean it, it was so sticky that he literally tried to wash it with soap & water. Needless to say, that one was replaced. He’s offered to clean mine. I think not.

As far as the new computer goes, if he’s like Chris with a ‘hobby’, he’s unstoppable. Right now, we have various parts of broken radio controlled planes & cars in the spare in the basement. I do wish you luck, though.

Did Chris really do that? I thought he was making it up when he told me.

Yes, he really did it, & I have the picture to prove it!

We used to wash off motherboards at Checkpoint. No soap. Just water. And let them dry real good before trying to use them again.

And, Second Son, just where did your Celeron laptop come from?

By the way, when I said, “build a server,” I’m not referring to assembling hardware. I’m referring to building the software load:

    • loading Slackware, Apache, MySQL, and php (the versions I’m currently running),
    • moving the database over,
    • making sure it works,
    • upgrading all the software to current,
    • making sure everything works,
    • then pointing port 80 on the router to the new server.

Opie knows what I mean. He rebuilds his server from scratch every couple of weeks or so just for fun (grin, duck, and run).

Before you do all that Apache/MySQL/PHP stuff, google the name XAMPP.

At 10 AM, you’ll load Slackware, then XAMPP, then WordPress. Then you’ll move your database over.

At 11 AM you’ll be wondering what to do with the rest of the day.

Or if you insist, do it your way, but most Christians who crucify themselves live in the Phillipines.
