Another Reason To Avoid Roller Coasters 2

A dozen riders on a roller coaster spent half an hour hanging upside down — 150 feet above the ground — after a power outage shut down the attraction.

Spectators cheered when the riders were brought to the ground from the highest point of a loop on the X-Coaster, but one passenger threw up after reaching safety.

When I saw this story, I thought about a safety training session we had at work once. We are required in many situations to wear fall protection harnesses. We are also told that if you do fall and wind up hanging by the harness, 911 help should be summoned immediately, because the human body does not fare well when hanging in one of those harnesses for long periods of time. If that’s true, I have to believe hanging upside down in a roller coaster can’t be much better.

There’s a reason the Feds mandated confined space training.

    People were dying.

‘course, Bush probably cancelled that training requirement, for all I know. Wouldn’t sit well with his oil buddies.
